They are really good and light. Haven't warped or come loose, only con is they get slightly rusty. Where as other brands don't. They feel just as good as the ice tech saints I came off of
Is this the review of the rotors in the picture or the ventilated ones? Rusty? I thought all rotors are made of stainless steel. Maybe it is a brake pad powder that goes rusty on the rotor surface.
Here's the ventilated hope rotor: www.bikemag.com/blog/hope_moto_v2_test there are two seperate plates, just like car brakes have. It is a bit wider than normal and it fits the largest dh hope calipters only. I noticed you ride in dry conditions. The weather and the climate in UK is much more appropriate for rusting. Hope's quality goes with their prices, so I would be careful with judgements about their metal. Maybe it is powdered pad that goes rusty or maybe there is a kind of sediment on you rotors resulting from the specific of the places you ride. It is the first time I hear about rusty bike rotors. Does is say "stainless steel" somewhere on the rotors? I can read it on shimano rotors.
Room mates bikes goes to all the same places no rust. I still like them but there are several sets that hold rust of some sort on the areas where there isn't contact. They all get washed and cleaned often. Shim ano and avid no issues. It's a small complaint but valid and not just me.
I wrote to Hope about the rusty rotors. This is my question:
" I am taking my time deciding between Hope tech3 V4 dh brakes and shimano saint. I tried the new saints, so I know something about the brakes. I have recently asked Hope V4 owners about some words of review. They all say the brakes are solid and work well, but the floating rotors they have, go rusty. I can read "stainless steel" on shimano rotors and they never go rusty. Why is there rust on Hope rotors? "
and this is Hope's answer:
" Hi, our rotors have more iron in them like car discs etc. It makes for a better braking surface and therefore more power. Hope that helps. " To be honest, it makes sense to me. Metals with more iron can provide more friction, BUT are there any complaints about shimano stainless rotors which don't provide enough braking force? I'll send them back the question.
I think I get you right. I just didn't know the fact as well as the explanation. I thought I should share the latest knowledge with you. If I leave my car parked for a week, it's rotors are rusty too.
lol touche, if i could of found an sdg ifly i would of got that. i love the hopes. i thought u would of gone for the m820s? which a lot of people prefer. they are good if you get a good set which u have a 50/50 of doing. i had some but got a dud set right out of the box which kinda put me off so back to trusty hope
ok, so the only difference is the lever, they updated it. I have the Tech 3 lever now. I guess its less bulky and easier to fit your shifter next to it.
