Hi. The paint needs to be chemically stripped so the metal doesn't get pitted. DEFINITELY not blasted or it will never polish. You can use a mix of acetone with a small amount of drano or better still I'd just find someone local to chemically strip and polish it then as it's a big job to do at home.
