It's not a trend...it's part of a diesel if it's built, or modified really. Or just has a tuner even. Unless it's one of those guys with a smoke switch...thats just dumb.
I understand why you don't like it, each to there own. But when you mod a Diesel, it is going to "roll coal". Some people enjoy modding cars, others enjoy to mod diesel trucks. Everyones interests are different. Yes, buying a diesel just so you can roll coal is pretty stupid though haha
Just so we're clear, I'm not trying to argue with you @seraph
haha bryandickson, all the coal is is unused fuel being burnt. its not what happens when you build a diesel. there are fully built trucks with 800+ horsepower that don't "roll coal"
yeah i have haha
ive worked at a diesel shop, going to school for diesel, and work on diesels.. yes a shit ton of people roll coal when you build them, but that doesn't mean its built at all. ive seen tons of 'built' diesel on drag strips and pulls not roll coal. A properly tuned diesel will make a large amount of power and not roll coal.. rolling coal is burning unused fuel, and when your not using all that fuel your not making as much power as you could be
Like ritchie said, if you watch any diesel drag or pulling trucks, the majority shit coal. If they are built/tuned perfectly, then in most cases no, there will not be much unburnt fuel/rolling coal. Well there may be a lot until the turbo spools, then it will clear up. Like I know what your saying, I know all that shit too, but if you are to go look at videos of drags/pulls, the majority will roal coal. That's what I'm basing it off. I was just trying to get the point across that a diesel "rollin coal" is not an uncommon thing.
A "smoke switch" is simply another program/ strategy, or an additional dupe pump to get more power. So no it's not dump. It's the same as any mod u could do to any kind or engine diesel or gas.
It's called a smoke switch for a reason. All it does is trick the engine into thinking it needs more fuel, so it dumps more fuel in and makes it smoke. Which yes, could produce more power, but it's mostly used for just rolling coal, it's not exactly a power maker.
