Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) was the surprise winner on stage two of the Tour de France after jumping clear from a group of favourites with a late attack. The Italian champion also took over the race lead, as he finished the stage two seconds ahead of Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) and Michal Kwiatkowski (OPQS). Overnight leader Marcel Kittel (Giant-Shimano) was unable to survive the day’s nine climbs and was dropped on the stage with Nibali’s two second lead enough to move him into yellow and ahead of Peter Sagan (Cannondale).

Such an awesome stage. I am up at 3am every morning….I am vehemently cursing Contador….some wounds never heal. Cheering everyone else on - interested in the Froome/Wiggins issue also keeping tabs on the Schlecks…not sure if Ryder is in the tour - and no Cadel Evans either?

NIBALI, NIBALI, NIBALI, NIBALI !!!...YESSSSSS, I couldn't believe my eyes when he pulled it off in front of those sprinters, I was so happy !!!...I think I have a mad man crush on Nibali, haha, I freakin' love his style !!!...I get what you're saying about Contador but the Schlecks are 'ex druggies' too...I'm not sure why Ryder didn't make the team but Andrew Talansky (USA) will lead the Garmin squad...we still have Svein Tuft and Christian Meier, both racing for Orica Greenedge that are kinda very quietly repping Canada, lol...Christian replaced, at the last minute, Michael Matthews who crashed in a training ride just before the start...Cadel did the Giro and is skipping the Tour, Greg Van Avermaet is leading the BMC Racing Team...Wiggins is waiting out his contract but will leave by the end of the year, he's not a team player and Froome could not count on him but Sky will wish they had him on board when the mountains come...Contador will be relentless, I wish I could be a little bird and listen to your cursing then, lol...

Andy Schleck is out of the Tour as a result from his crash during stage 3...
