- We don't often give PODs based on content rather than photographic merit. But do you know what? A blind man ripping down a DH track on a tandem is worthy of your respect.

I'm a 50yr female captain of a tandem, coming from a mountain bike single track background. I ride every weekend on the tandem with guys 70 - 80 + yrs & blind. I try my best to bring the flow & adrenalin to our rides every time we go out. The hard work of pumping it up hills on Ms V8 as we have named my new Cannondale tandem is often met with the disappointment of speed humps on our down hill run. I dream of this kind of suspension to ride with my crazy old mate who also likes to be clipped in. Its great fun & trust, I encourage you all to give it a go. My visually impaired buddies bring a completely new meaning to the joy of riding. Cheers Pamala

you rock!! cheers from Chile
(Sep 18, 2014 at 10:13)
so the guy on the back is blind and 70 something years old? unreal... so rad that you do what you do!!!
(Sep 18, 2014 at 10:29)
Tandem riders need more exposure for sure. I would pay to see people front flip a tandem.
(Sep 19, 2014 at 12:47)
The guy behind isn't 70 years old but he is actually blind! That couple guys ride many many championships in Spain, specially in catalonia (around Barcelona) RESPECT to them!! I had the chance to ride as a passenger and a pilot in this tandem... being the passenger with the official pilot was for sure the time ive got most adrenaline riding DH, the experience was awesome and really scary!! As a pilot the most relevant things to say is that it's way harder than you expect to move the bike and 100x times more tiring for your hands than in any other ride. They got the bike from the Spanish brand MSC, they did specially for them putting together two MSC F5 frames... If you want more info check their website!

This is so heartwarming. Go you, keep being awesome!
(Sep 18, 2014 at 0:18)
Just imagine being the guy in the back...all you can do is pedal and hope to go the other guy doesn't crash the bike
(Sep 18, 2014 at 2:45)
On the plus side, you have someone to break your fall. That is, if you position him properly during the crash.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 6:23)
And on top of that (LOL), you can't see when it's coming anyway. Knowing your about to crash is normally worse then the crash.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 6:36)
but can you imagine how ridiculously fun that would be? probably be worth a few crashes haha!
(Sep 18, 2014 at 7:54)
I'd imagine the blind rider has a more in tune sense of balance and knows when those oh shit moments are inevitable. Keep rippin, brah!
(Sep 18, 2014 at 14:04)
I would hope that I could at least turn my bars a little, to make me feel better. Kinda like the toy car steering wheels when I was a kid. Calming.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 16:47)
hahahaha best comment
(Sep 18, 2014 at 0:37)
Lets make it more interesting...the front guy have the front brake and the back guy have the rear brake
(Sep 18, 2014 at 2:33)
Well tha's a nice job description. Hahaha...
(Sep 18, 2014 at 8:52)
Lets make it even more interesting. The blind man is the one in front.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 0:10)

Surely he of all people should get a trail dog!
(Sep 18, 2014 at 1:54)
This is just so much win!
(Sep 18, 2014 at 7:08)
As someone who has ridden on the back of a mountain tandem, I'm glad they are padded up as much as an astronaut.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 7:08)
UCI TANDEM WORLD CUP 2015!!!!! Mandatory gaps a must though.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 9:14)
I don't know which event would bring more carnage, Tandem DH or that 10 person dh race event that's being promoted. Either way, both a going to be a gong-show and uber fun to watch.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 4:08)
I want to see this video !
(Aug 25, 2014 at 11:03)

This is where the English language developed punctuation
(Sep 18, 2014 at 2:56)
Punctuate me in Polish and I will bow to you. Oh look at those people Campbell, they come from a land with a different language with totaly different grammar structure. They took effort to learn our language instead of German or Russian but such a pity, their punctuation is outrageous, what s bunch of oiks. Yes sir Richard, if that 0.0000001% of English speakers willing to learn a foreign language would go out and learn it, they would punctuate like crew of HMS Victoria washes the deck and folds their underwear
(Sep 18, 2014 at 3:09)
wow, WAKI, way to be annoying
(Sep 18, 2014 at 3:15)
WAKI clearly you did not read the photo description. It is not about the tandem its about a blind guy who sits in the back
(Sep 18, 2014 at 3:28)
I am terribly sorry for looking at the picture from another angle. Such a faux pais...
(Sep 18, 2014 at 4:01)
I thought you were having a joke there waki.
Some of these pb ers are a grumpy bunch.
I don't mind about the punctuation, you can try harder next time
(Sep 18, 2014 at 4:33)
Hey waki, your numbers are very wrong. Many in the US speak and learn multiple languages. Enough with the negs about my country. The US is a great place, with some of the most amazing people on the planet. Stop taking shots at my country. The person you were responding to wasn't even from US.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 4:35)
Oops, thought you were slamming US again, but just English speakers, never mind.
(Sep 18, 2014 at 6:16)
Randy - i am rarely dead serious. Obviously, this thing would require same punctuation in almost every language. Deadtine - BS! You Americans just speak Spanish and only because you have to, otherwise you'd not be able to order any house service
(Sep 18, 2014 at 12:33)
I think they just wave a visa and point to what they want done....
(Sep 18, 2014 at 13:04)
That's what I do on holiday
(Mar 26, 2015 at 5:47)
(Sep 18, 2014 at 7:01)
those poor brakes...
(Sep 18, 2014 at 2:16)
(Sep 18, 2014 at 6:49)
(Sep 18, 2014 at 11:44)
Is that Ace and Gary?
(Sep 18, 2014 at 14:54)
If the guy on the back is blind, why the tinted goggles?
(Sep 18, 2014 at 3:04)
Below threshold threads are hidden
(Sep 18, 2014 at 0:33)
purely scientific question, why does a blind man on (the back of) a tandem bike need goggles?
(Sep 18, 2014 at 0:39)
(Sep 18, 2014 at 1:12)
For several reasons... Like:
Just because he is blind doesn't mean his eyes are closed all the time,
Bright light into the eyes can actually hurt and dis-orient regardless of weather Vision impaired or not (in fact, apparently it effects them more so than people with regular vision),
And lastly, Crap flinging up into your face (and you'd be surprised how much you get on the back of a tandem) can make you flinch and move about if its unexpected, Add a tandem into the mix and I'm sure it wont be to much of a leap to work out why that'd be bad...
(Sep 18, 2014 at 2:02)
(Sep 18, 2014 at 5:04)
Exactly. It looks so wrong they should be on a Lefty!
(Sep 18, 2014 at 5:42)
did you read the description?
"A blind man ripping down a DH track on a tandem is worthy of your respect."
(Sep 18, 2014 at 10:33)
As a photo I don't feel this is pod worthy. The action is meh, lightings boring, no pop at all. Angle and location seems rushed. Hardly any depth. Awkward riding at a snail pace. Hats off for shredding a tandem guys by all means. I'm sure there's a tone of people who can do exactly the same thing first time and pull off a better photo. imo
