I think the riders add to the shot. Gives a sense of scale for a start. It generates a nice feeling in me, the warmth you get inside on an all day epic with good weather and good scenery.

Looks to be sunset. Either way getting that beginning or ending of day light is always gorgeous.

Either way it is golden hour time. I always liked golden hour photos more not for the lightning only, but the extra effort the riders and photographers put. It is either wake up too early, or it is too late and it's a descend into darkness.
