Serious question here.... Why does it seem like there is a growing number of negative comments under the POD selections that are negative only because the photo has been taken my a well known photographer? It seems like these comments are stemming from a small group of photographers who feels slighted and insulted that their work is not being chosen instead, and therefor they complain. I am all for lesser known photographers being featured, and I am sure there are a bunch out there that are not being featured, but making negative comments about chosen photos or the person who did the choosing is probably the worst way to get taken seriously. Yes the guys who shoot MTB day in and day out at the top level will be featured the most, it is just the nature of the game. God forbid the guys who shoot the most photos, and consistently turn out top level work are going to show up here more than others. There used to be a POD thread in the forums where people could post pics they thought were worthy but may have been flying under the radar. Maybe some of the photographers who feel like they are being overlooked could start that up again rather than just taking cheap shots in the comments here each day. And lastly, it's just a photo on the front page of a website. No one get's their career launched from getting a POD, it isn't the key to commercial clients, and paid work. It is simply a rad photo being shared for a large audience to enjoy. If all you are after is bragging rights to your friends or recognition from random strangers on the internet then you are taking photos for the wrong reasons.

not sure... some photos look like they are only POD as they were taken by a well known photographer. If that same photo was taken by somebody with not much 'fame' or no pod's; it would not have been selected. (not talking about this one here)
Other than that i have no idea why people moan about who got the POD...

I dunno @HutchJR, Seems like you SHOULD be able to tell us about POD moaning. imgur.com/GSkOdcC

haha i was not complaining about the picture, i liked that one; my statement above was more about people complaining that only the 'pro' photographers get pod's and that less well known ones don't

The problem it's not about pro photographers getting every time POD, the problem is that some images of pro photographers are worse of who is not a pro and becomes anyway POD !!! Out there, there are users with much better images and most of this people are not pros but just normal people or people who loves photography and strives and spend even money to shoot just a pic. That's the main reason why people are giving negative comments on POD's , not because they are jelaous but just because some images deserves more than other's! In my opinion users musto choose who is POD and who it's not , in any case if a photographer it's a real PRO will not have any difficulty to emerge and at same time people will choose the best image not because it's done by a pro but just because it's a great image for every one ! Otherwise there is no reason why Pinkbike should keep users uploading there own images.

So @gladiax87 the only reason people should upload pics is so they can maybe get POD??? How about just for the love of sharing pics of people places friends etc with a community who loves bikes???

And please show me which POD's are "worse" in comparison to the i chosen "better" photos you are referring to. I just want to see what we are all missing out on here.

Enjoyment of a photo is entirely unique. For instance I arent a huge fan of this particular photo. I get it but i dont appreciate it on the same level as some other photos. My tiny ipad screen doesnt do it justice, on a big screen or a magazine it would probably look amazing. Personally though I wouldnt feel compeled to complain about it as my opinion is just one. Some people love to complain and like to think there are conspiricies everywhere. Thats the joy of the internet, every fool has a voice.

@davetrump It's useless continuing talking about, I have my openion and you yours and the images talk's alone.
As you can see day by day there are people that comments like me and think's like me, and the props given on this type of comments are increasing.
Like you are saying photography it's for people who loves to stop the time and get that moment (that's me) , but what is true is to be said.
I don't have anything against you , actually I voted your image when you were in finals against Sterling. I only like to see new pics , in Italy we say that "the world it's beautiful because it's various" and I love to show the world in various ways.

looking at this photo, am i the only one who thinks they should do man tracker in and area like this and give the prey bikes? this could be the greatest idea.
  • 2 1
Oh man I'd sign up for that

It's not that well-known photographers are getting POD because they are well-known, it's because the photos are really good. It just so happens that well-known photographers have really good photos, because the reason they are well-known is because they take really good photos.

1: For me this photo is fantastic! Deserving of of the distinction .... But it is a subjective opinion, as all opinions.
I am not a photographer, so my interest is just to see good photos .
2: POD looks like something only reserved for "preferred photographers" of MattWragg.
3: The person who selects the photos in this function is lazy, or do not have time to make this selection. Search
photos worthy of distinction .... just in the galleries of already highlighted photographers.
4: proving the previous:

5: All authors of great photos that are not renowned photographers, or who are not "friends" of those who choose ...
DESERVE RESPECT !!!!! deserve at least know that one day MAY have a POD ...
6: Quality and excellence of a photo is not in the author, but in the PHOTO and their characteristics.
7: Pinkbike have others to choose the POD, and which ensure variety in the selection.
Should not be always the same person to do the selection of the POD.

In older PODs riders had more zkilz. Ridning with closed eyes. www.pinkbike.com/photo/891

It would be nice with less professional PODs like the one above but I do enjoy and admire the new ones. Most of them are sick.

I personally do not care about that POD's often are taken by professional photographers, but I kind of miss the POD's where you can see the riders enjoying biking, the POD's where you can see the amazing personal style of different riders, the flow in amazing trail, the focus of downhillers when they are passing a rockgarden with high speed for example, the joy of people loving the time they are spending on their bike. It kind of feels that the most POD's are just 99% beautiful landscapes and 1% a guy on a bike. Those photos don't show anything of the rider, the photos are all about the landscape ... I miss those exploding berms, those crazy downhill shot and the awesome slopestyle shots...

Well, for me riding is as much about getting to experience new landscapes as it is new trails, so I'm not bitching about landscape photos that let me feel what it might be like to be in that location. They inspire me to get out just as much, if not more than any action photos ever could.

@GuillaumeDore weren't 6 of the last 8 POD's exactly what you said you wanted to see? Variety is the spice of life and it seems POD check all the boxes for a lot of different people's taste

  • 9 3
One chosen a month (and never more than 2) spread over a few years of taking some unique a rad photos and posting over 5,000 of them here for you to enjoy. What's wrong with that? Those 49 photos are all fantastic.

 2014: May 7, May 21, May 29!
2013: Aug 1, Aug 15, Aug 19!
Jul 4, Jul 26, Jul 30!

Three on one month! Three months!!

They were all great photos though.
  • 4 2
That still leaves 27 or 28 days for others. Still seems perfectly fine by me
  • 4 0
Agreed. Best photo should be up, regardless of who took it.
  • 2 0
I thought the idea of the pod was to enjoy the photo, not reaserch how many times the photographer had previously acheived a pod?
  • 1 0
Just having some fun calling out davetrump on his incorrect claim. Smile
  • 2 0
No worries. I just couldn't be bothered to actually go through a look for the sake of pinpoint accuracy... Just made a fairly accurate general assumption to give the general idea that's all.

I should have figured someone would get out the fine tooth comb :-)
