 Strangely when I do it, it doesn't look like that... On a serious note - yoga and stretching helped my performance and recovery quite a lot!

 When you start practicing cobra pose, keep your elbows bent and pinned to your sides. Increase you spinal flexibility gradually over time @boyblue1973.

 You would never simulate anything like this pose in real life, so why practice it? Some yoga experts have said this is a dangerous stretch, and it seems irresponsible to post it as the first picture, as if this is a great way to start your yoga routine. More like a great way to injure your lower back for the uninitiated.

 Cobra is a safe pose if you work within the limits of your own spinal flexibility. The article you cite only suggests that the pose may be dangerous if you drop your head back and hyperextend your neck. It is essentially the same position adopted by surfers when they paddle out beyond the break to catch a wave.

 That's awesome @Milko3D. Yoga and stretching can really give you the edge.
