Red cedar bowl. Wood given to me in haida gwaii, so design seems appropriate. It's big, like 22 inches in diameter I think.

Beautiful. Even before I read that the wood was given to you in Haida G'waii, I knew instantly that your trip this summer inspired this piece, making it even more beautiful. I'm heading to Ft. St. James on Saturday (Nak'azdli territory, Tl'azt'en people, our daughter Morgan's nation) for a cultural camp for people living away from the nation. Looking forward to it.

superb, I really like Haida artwork, the simplicity and colour is almost child like if I may call it that without sounding offensive

Yeah I hear you. People called picasso childlike as well. One aspect of genius is to make the difficult seem simple, and the haida sense of line shape form, and negative space. The work I saw in haida gwaii blew me away. Their complex designs do seem simple, but when I was dissecting it, I realized how little I knew. Even this piece, which I am happy with, is so pedestrian compared to true haida work.

Nice. Tlingit have a very close relationship to haida, but they are mainlanders. I think Tlingit were the first to add wings to their poles as well.
