 Octocopters seem to be the rage these days.
Beyond the rotor/mechanical parts, do you think such a set-up would cost a small fortune?
I'm seriously considering building myself one.

 The frame that you see in the picture ended up being around 300 or so dollars (I don't have a 3d printer so had to have the pieces 3d printed). Motor mounts were another 80 to have printed. The booms are just aluminum stock from Home Depot I drilled holes into.
The gimble was around 150.

Electronics prices I don't even want to think about right now haha.
I have built many a multirotor and an octocopter is really overkill unless you have a serious camera to take up.
It's quite easy to build a nice quad for 600 or dollars (buying one is lame). An octocopter becomes exponentially more expensive for obvious reasons.
