We shot this picture on our trip to Utah for Red Bull and a German TV show " Wild Ones - Junge Helden". Due to the strict time schedule we had only three hours to build this hip in the afternoon and three hours to shoot the picture in the sunrise the next morning. But the sweat and tears were definitely worth it. It was a special experience for us to take the first freeride shot in Monument Valley. :-)

A little chuffed this didn't beat out the dusty berm shot.... the composition, focus, depth of field, lighting, the location.... Laue's shot is just simply near perfect.

Even a year on, every time I see a thumbnail of this shot or it posted somewhere I always come back to it and just stare for a good 5 minutes haha. Definitely one of my all time favourite mtb photos

cool shot! did you have permission from the Navajo Nation to build there? as someone from the area, its a BIG no-no to enter (let alone build on) the reservation without permission.

Thanks. We had a permission on private property and everything was organized.

I was just wondering the same thing since I have several friends that work on various projects within the Navajo Nation. Great to hear you guys went about it the right way! Amazing shots too!

Nice to see this pic making it this far into the comp, hands down the most captivating landscape shot of the competition. It has all the elements.
