Capitol Reef is one of the most underrated NP's, IMO. So cool. Did you stop at the homestead?

Didn't stop at the homestead. Rode through on the Burr Trail, camped out under the stars with nary a man-made light in sight (airplanes excepted)

...also went to Lake Powell since Edward Abbey hated it so much. Tried to imagine it with a river running through the canyon. Weird to see so many boats, and large ones, in the desert. Desert Solitaire and Monkey Wrench Gang are both required reading.

@reverend: I've nearly finished Desert Solitaire. MWG is one of my wife's faves, and I'll read it next.

@sngltrkmnd: Both are good reads. I like the autobiographic nature of Desert Solitaire. MWG is a hoot, and easy to see how some like Earth First took off from Abbey's starting point.

And how. Goal is to become mechanically competent enough to be able to do most of the potential wrenching necessary should there be a mechanical on the trail.
