Selected by Simon Nieborak - If only all Monday mornings looked like this... Great "first person point-of-view" shots like this one here make us all dream about epic rides on dusty trails.
i agree, especially about the processed part. this is what you get when you play with the sliders in Camera Raw/Lightroom too much. Striking? Absolutely. Real? No.
Whats the difference? This shot tells the story with a hell of a presentation - period.
Setting a double standard on the equipment is a little weak. Where do you draw the line on what camera or lens is acceptable when this shot is obviously a banger? Medium format film? 35mm film? pro-body DSLR? consumer DSLR? mirrorless? point n shoot? cell phone? It shouldn't matter - if the tool works, use it.
@kent-b: Fair enough. I guess it's more that I find the point-of-view shots over the bars like that to be cliched, and I kind of associate them with look-at-me social media posts to an overwhelming degree, even if the context here is obviously different. Also looks super processed to my eye. To each his own, though.
@geltmanl: I get where you're coming from, but I don't mind the occasional POV. I just reckon its cool that pinkbike recognizes it's not the equipment that makes the picture. I don't have an expensive camera - just happened to snap this one when the light got nice while we were riding.
@SamWaltProductions: Cheers, man. I feel bad for being negative about it; just my own feelings about gopro as a phenomenon coming through. Congrats on the POD!
By all means we should protest because when a POD is taken with a manual film camera.
A good photo is a good photo, it doesn't mater what camera was used to take it. Ugh!
@ugez: the difference is a picture from a rider vs. a picture from somebody watching a rider. Also, am I not allowed to have an opinion w/o upsetting you?
