yep ! it's funny, because there was a strange feeling in how the frame suspension worked and we couldn't get where it came from, because the crack was hidden under a chain protector. we thought shock bushings or other mounting hardware had some play, but just as we had checked everything we saw the GAP haha. it was holding by magic and we were jumping on it before that to try and see " what's that strange feeling in the frame"

nice it didn't snap on him when dropping stairs just before that.

 Thats so funny as the same think happen to me. It was 2003 or 4 and I was on a Giant AM with the chain stays tapped up to help with china slap. It cracked in the same place as this trek but beings it was in tape I didn't know. I took it to my local shop as it was riding very funky and ghost shifting like crazy. The shop dude took the tape off and boom, the chain stay feel down. ahahhahhahahhahha It is magic! Its super cool you got it re-welded, I had to scrap the frame as I had already cracked the top tube and Giant Japan wouldn't warranty another frame for me!
