 @Scotj009: It's SS! Kinda... I've got three wee cogs I move the derailleur across. Got a really short length of cable and a barrel adjuster I can use to change which ring it's in.
Probably will go back to a 7 speed block later but this has done me well for a year now

 @Scotj009 @hairy-g Works a charm, I've got just enough cable pull in the barrel adjuster to cover three cogs. Needs a hand into the biggest but once it's there it stays put.
