I had this same issue. I think the order of what happened was snapped rear axle in a corner, disc bent, then torqued the chainstay to crack this part. I had to pay $140 CAD for replacement.
THEN, main pivot was so seized that the shop had to cut it off with angle grinder and replace chainstay assembly.
NOW, rocker and yoke is bent and bike is eating shocks. Super tired of replacing everything (and paying for the parts on a lifetime warranty frame).

Not much left holding that! :-(
Looks like a potential for manufacturing/material flaw, if it wasn't damaged. I guess Kona had a closer look?

FYI...I just found this thread again. Last year they ditched me on a warranty issue with the carbon knuckle and blamed me for it. My dealer wound up buying it himself and just giving me the new part he was so pissed at them

I mean, if the pivot bearings were totally seized then there's no wonder Kona didn't warranty it ????

Did you ever managed to get this warrantied?

Not really. They made me pay for the bits but they did supply them at a discounted rate.

@bizutch: i wouldn't worry too much, the US warranty guy seemed decent when i spoke to him, just the Euro one that i had to deal with wasn't as helpful. Also this is the only one I've seen break like this and I've been riding mine fine ever since. Its a great bike, happy riding!
