Changed stems from the 50mm hope DH to the 35mm Hope freeride

It gives the front end a more playful feel and lightened up the steering, I likes!

The fatness or the short stem?
Short stems are the in for a lot of riding, I like them, they make the front end feel quick and nimble.

The bars look fatter than my bars, so I thought they were something new maybe?

I have gone back and forth on stems, recently I went from 35 or 40mm stems on all my bikes to 60mm on all 3. I agree shorter stems are very great for quick nimbleness, "nimbleness, is that a word?" But I felt I was lacking something on the climbs.

This is looking great!

@nikoniko: thanks man! They are normal 31.8... I can hear you there on stem length, the 35 is great for all things playful, but I hit up a park with some hiking and biking paths today with my buddy from work. (He just pick up a couple year old Surly Pugsly that only had 15 miles on it, so he's been stoked to ride) A couple of the steeper hills I had to hoof it cause I couldn't keep the front end down, they were wicked steep though. The downhill was a blast I got some good air a few times. I tend to like the down a little more than the up, so the stems safe for now, haha.

See, that was my logic for many many years! I like the down more than the up so short 35mm stems is what I used! But Im really liking the 60mm for both up and down. Also living in Japan I got used to riding bikes once size too small for me, ahahaha so fining a nice balance point is always great. Sounds like you and your bud had a great time! I have only tested a Fat bike once and it was a full rigid surly and I was astonished at how light it pedaled and bunny hopped!

@nikoniko: it was a great time, his surly pedals super easy and hops pretty well also... I wouldn't second guess buying one at all.

I am usually a tweener, small feels a tiny bit little, medium a tiny bit big, so I normally run the hope DH 50mm stems on small frames, but the fatty is smack dab between my small and medium bikes in top tube length and it tends to be my roudiest ride, so I will probably keep the 35 on. I want to find a Charge Cooker Maxi 2 (symmetrical rear end fatty) to build a trials type fatty with, but haven't been able to find a small frame yet. Overall I'm starting to get hooked on the fat tires, if you get a chance, grab one, you won't regret it.

@zapbranigon: I will bro! I have wanted to try fat bikes on the trails for years now!
For me, onone has a great price point for a complete bike to start with! One day!
As for now Im very happy with my 3 bikes and I will continue to shred the 456 while dreaming of fatter tires! ahhahahah Razz

@nikoniko: haha, I'm usually a minimalist... but I've got to say bigger tires (and curvy spots on ladies) is where I break from that approach. I see benefits to thicks! It may be a couple more pounds than a 29'er/27.5 or vintage 26, but the added confidence with fat tires lets you rip it up and hang it out, I feel like an animal since riding it, I can toast people on flowing single track and down hill areas I never could of before.

Totally agree for the price it's hard to beat On-one... then just jazz it up (like I did with all the hope parts) as you go along. I got an orange hope hub set on the way. ;-)

Curvy ladies! I take pride in a admiring the beauty of curvy ladies! lol

Nice, the bigger tires make you feel animalistic, very cool!
I agree, hope makes some very pretty parts and all CNCed for ultimate strength to weight.

@nikoniko: Haha... big dog has to eat!! Haha!

It really has been awesome, granted I do probably just ride wilder on it, but it makes me feel invincible. I like hope since they are always though enough I usually don't break anything, haha.

That will quicken your steering! Nice!

It certainly did, it livened it up very much. It feels as sporty on hard pack and tar & gravel roads as my "regular" bikes
