Have not been to Valmont...but have been to Fruita and Grand Junction a few years back. We met up with the Over The Edge group ride on a couple of trails; 18 Road, Western Rim, Horsethief Bench / Mary's loop to name a few. That's an awesome place man.
This trail was really a blast!
