yeah well before i upgrade to discs, i am getting a new fork so i will only need to shave the back, but when shaved do i need to take the material off of the inside of the mount or the outside, i will be able to do it myself in machine shop. i just need to know which side of the mount

i bought it maybe 3 years ago? it was my first real bike that wasnt a wal-mart special. i had no idea that i would want to get into MTB i just figured use this cuz i got it and buy a new frame when i need it. im going to look into the soul cycles sluggo when i need a new frame. im happy with it so far. how did the cranks have anything to do with the hardrock?

if you want an honest opinion just replace the crank and get rid of 2 of the front gears and go from there go single speed but before that get a new back wheel that wheel will buckle after jumping for a bit specially if u start spinning (180s-360s) or whippingthe handle bars and stem r fine the tires will wear really easily and get a cheap fork like a dirt jam

im getting an 06 drop off 1 soon and with that a 20mm wheel. and i was asking what the crank had to do with the hardrock because you can replace them. i am on my 2nd set already. and the back wheel and tire need replacing, well the tire does at last its almost bald. the back wheel needs to be trued. but i just got a job so i should be gettin some cash in to spend on a bike soon.

i dig the hardrock. my first bike was the same as that- the 300 dollar base model. I loved that thing and rode the hell out of it.

I agree that the fork would need replacing, but just keep riding it, it won't kill you or anything.

Don't upgrade to discs, just do that on the stinky, and lets see...
yeah the cranks suck, but bitch at specialized on that one for putting the worst possible components on their bikes.

anyway good luck with the stinky ( i have a coiler and it rips)
and also good luck finding a road bike (don't get too stuck on the fixienomenon

I had a hardrock first non-walmart bike I didn't think I was gonna use it for jumping or anything but I rode it to death.....almost

Broke the front axle, blew the fork internals to mush, bent couple chains, flattened my 3rd gear into a taco bash guard:P, broke seat post, went threw around 3 pair or tires, an demolished the rear wheel.....

After that got a Cannondale Chase 3 rode the shit out of that and replaced every part on it, and now just built up a Sinister DNABig Grin

But year man buy parts you want now an later buy the frame and when you have all the parts you need swap them from the hardrock to the kona. I would upgrade the fork, then the wheels an get a bash guard with single ring with chain guide or dual if you like more options, then some oversized bars and stem an it would be sick!

it now has a drop-off 1 fork and new front wheel which will be going back and forth between this bike and my stinky because its strong enough and is 20 mm thru. this bike now is stayig the way it is unless i get extra parts its now a freeride/xc/round town bike when i dotn feel like pedaling my stinky. im going to have pictures of the stinky soo when its built or starting to be built

oh n if u want to upgrade to discs u have to get the disc mopunts shaved down to 8mm wide stock they are 9mm and cause your disc to not even fit into the caliper when installed
