It's because it is glued. this photo is not a broken wheel like PB states just a badly dented one....
RC was racing for trek when this happened it's an alloy wheel that got dented so bad it wouldnt really keep a seal when they bent it back. So RC's mechanic used epoxy and glued the tire to the rim and then filled it with air for day 2 and it worked.
