Hi, Can I ask you a question. I am new and never had a bike like this which looks awesome. What do I want to look for if I buy a bike? I don’t want to spend much, $1000? Can I get a bike for that much used? Any suggestions of makers and components?
Sorry to bug but don’t know. Thanks Desi

No idea how you found this photo I posted 14 years ago but no worries. I would highly recommended buying a bike that best suits your local riding area rather than based on looks as I can assure you that this was a horrid bike to ride and is unsuitable for most riding that doesn't involve a chairlift. I would recommend going to a few local bike shops and just ask a bunch of questions.

Most shop workers are there because riding is their passion and are happy to chat with a newbie even if you aren't buying anything. If you aren't getting the right feeling from your conversations or they seem uninterested just go somewhere else. For $1000 you will definitely find something but there will be a lot of bikes in poor condition so be very careful. Stay away from anything that seems like a good deal and if you're not sure take it to a shop for a repair quote before you buy. Any seller that won't let you do that just walk away.

@dylanvarkonja: hi, thanks for the info. Your right I need to go talk with people and learn about different parts of a bike. Example what’s the kind of frame I want or brakes etc. I see these guys biking and would like to get a bike but clueless. That’s funny, I somehow saw your post from way back when. ThNks and take it easy. Desi

Wow. That's one of the strangest rear linkages I've seen. Very cool! Nice wheels there, man.
