@Sshredder: that's the stuff! I will pass the bike onto a carbon fiber repairer here in Cairns.. he is an old fiberglasser and very experienced with carbon repairs. The materials are easy enough to source however the quality of repair relies very much on the quality of prep and application and I'm happy to defer to an expert!
@buspilot: that's awesome! Aluminum can be fixed but you must weld a patch past the stress riser. A good fibreglass repairman will know how to bond the new carbon fiber. It I get another carbon frame I will try fixing my self. Although there is an expert carbon repair guy close by. Bottom line . It's cool that carbon fiber frames have extended longevity if you fix the cracked part.
Yes, I think this is fascinating about carbon, I didn't know you could do that until Buspilot was telling me over christmas! Aluminum needs a special welder that most don't have in this area. Very cool stuff man!
@aluminum gets fatigued if you have a cracked frame a repair is temporary. You can't just weld over the crack you have to add plates and welding aluminum properly you need hi end tig welders and a perfect gas shield ect ect bla bla bla. Carbon fiber. Slap on some new sheets and frame should be good.
