All it takes is a stick in the wheel and you are stuck pedaling that 50+ lb ebike home with no power. So far so good for testing. The ‘window’ allows for sensing the spoke-mounted magnet, while the open-back design allows debris to fall away. I utilized the stock chain stay bolt and disc brake zip-tie anchors, for a solid mount that does not even touch the frame. I imagine this will be unnecessary in coming years as manufacturers realize how vulnerable this crucial component is, and find ways to integrate the sensor into the chain stay.
