Its a cool photo, shame about the photoshop blur though :/ Though i cant see how else you would get that effect straight from the camera, as the object is moving towards you blah blah:P

It is possible... Insanely fast CAF + slower shutter speed + zooming(or maybe unzooming) during the shot

I got a similar effect on a pic by zooming in and out whilst taking the photo, i did it by accident but it looked awesome.

thats done with a slowish shutter speed and zooming out while taking the picture!! give a mint effect!! cool pic guys!!

To all those who say this can be done with a slow shutter speed while zooming: You can only do this with a stationary object. The rider is not a stationary object, even if he tries to maintain this position while moving directly at the camera, any slight movement would show up as a blur. There's nothing wrong with using Photoshop because it's a great tool. That said, there's no point in denying it when it's used.

Ok guys, I can see a lot of bitching here because I photoshoped the picture. Sure I did and maybe the original one is not POD material, I just added it so you can judge : www.pinkbike.com/photo/2075471.
Nor the trick neither the jump was huge. My aim was to render the speed which is why I decided to emphasize the background's blur. I could have done that optically, but the effect would have been miles away from this.
Anyways, I think this was something pretty new, I've never seen this before and I urge you to bring new ideas so you can get POD one day, untill then...enjoy

its not bad.. just not my taste. DONT get me wrong, its got nothing to do with the editing, i think using photoshop is a awesome skill to have.

There is no way to get the background that out of focus and have the rider in focus while the subject is moving. Has to be photoshop. If it could be done Sterling L would have done it by now.

Its possible to get this effect with the camera (no photoshop). I wouldnt say to that extent though. Its just a slow shutter, as you take the shot you zoom from the closest point to the widest.

its called a zoom pull u silly billies, its a basic photography technique usually used on night shots to make lights streak, no photoshop just good skills with a camera, nice shot bro i bet it took a few tries to look this sweet

Yeah that is the technique, but he clearly didn't do that, since the rider has absolutely no blur. Nicely photoshopped though!

the technique is to take a long exposure photograph while zooming with the subject, so the subject stays in focus but the background blurs. so the guy would have taken the picture as he was zooming out, keeping the biker in focus, making the biker be vibrant and the background blur.

nope, it is photoshopped if the photographer would have used the zoom technique, the rider would still be blurred because when he zooms in/out the rider would get bigger/smaller causing it to blurr. the photographer would have to move closer while zooming to make it work.
you can also tell its photoshopped because you can see the layers. 1 layer in the back where there is the trees (normal pic) and the other on top making the effect.
