'wcs90' I don't think you get it, it's not about what YOU think is POD - everyone has different opinions on riding/life/everything, you need to grow up and realize this.
I understand what POD is. you didn't understand what I meant. I just wanted to say that giving negative props to people who don't like pic, ONLY BEACAUSE OF it's POD, is groundless
hmmm, i don't understand the point of the 2 foot raised, 3 foot wide boardwalk, complete with steel welded structure, and through bolt fasteners ... geez what a waste of material when there's a perfectly nice pine needle bed trail under it ... "northshore" isn't this i'm afraid to say. northshore trail building is when there is no other option than what's naturally available in order to maintain a line, flow, or to introduce a feature stunt that needs to be built out ... anyways, very nice work on the "boardwalk", just totally unnecessary and my opinion so don't hate me for it cheers.
So don't see it as a "North-Shore structure". See it as a regular downhill park stunt, consisting out of a boardwalk finishing of as a small kicker. There are a lot of places where North-Shore structures aren't necessary, yet very fun to ride.
Begs the question though - why the stupidly big ladder/run up? The ground looks pretty solid. Wouldn't it have been a lot less effort just to build a dirt kicker?
Thanks for the positive comments guys.... I took that pic of Devin... he was rippin' that day... really nice kid too! This pics shows how it was that day... really gloomy, misty, and somewhat wet... but still an awesome day!
Its a bike park. So this stunt is hit about 200 time everyday diablo is open. All of the stunts at diablo are overbuilt. But this is a good thing It makes it easier for beginners to feel confident riding them. I mean honestly diablo is the greats place ever. The 20-30 foot long tables are great for buiding confidence. They have the progression drops which go from 2-6 feet. It just doesnt get better then diablo. Everything is perfectly groomed up there too. I can wait till the 26th.
"So this stunt is hit about 200 time everyday diablo is open. All of the stunts at diablo are overbuilt. But this is a good thing It makes it easier for beginners to feel confident riding them." Not only that, but it makes them durable, so they can withstand several seasons with thousands and thousands of abusing them.
"good POD! Look on the perfect NS??!!"... "wow, that shore is f*ckin perfect!" The north shore is a place and they don't use welded steel for unnecessary bridges.
Great photo ruined only by the obscenely large watermark.
timikiwi also raises a good point when he said:
"Begs the question though - why the stupidly big ladder/run up? The ground looks pretty solid. Wouldn't it have been a lot less effort just to build a dirt kicker?"
without going to the trail, its impossible to say whether the ladder is necessary, but the ground does look rather flat which could cause a drainage problem, in which case it's consistent with the true essence of north-shore trail building.
Why the bridge instead of a dirt kicker? How about easy maintenance...? Build it with dirt and EVERY day (probably multiple times) someone would have to go up and re-shape the lip...
Just my reasoning as to why they went with that....
plus it's good to see a POD that's not some form of generic dirt jumping with sunny skies.
What i dont understand is why the hell people are calling this "shore". When something is "SHORE" it means it is on the north shore, in BC, not some stupid ass ladder bridge you put up in your backyard. Why not keep the term shore, for stuff that is built on the NORTH SHORE.
It is a nice pic and all, but seriously the people taking pictures up there need to take some shots of something else besides this kicker and that deck drop. They have pictures of opening day on RM and there isnt one other picture besides this and the deck drop. NOTHING ELSE AT ALL. After seein 100 different shots of it, Im tired of looking at it.
you cant really launch that high off it, more for distance, which isnt that far either. and the bikes not that heavy, its an 2008 Iron Horse Sunday just so everyone knows
yea, i knew a was gonna get shit for the lack of whip, im no vanderham but just so everyone knows i can tweak it waaayyy more than that. now i need an alibi.
is that diablo? i did alot of the trails this year and dint find a kicker that long or else its just the angle of that step up to step out kicker on salvation
Great to see how much your photography skills have improved, David. Still remember the thread where you should you camera and I told you, very rudely, how it should be held.
i cant believe how ppl can critiszie this picture. about the watermark pissed all over it? dave is the illest photographer out there. the jump is absolutely amazing and i was standing right there when this photo was taken and if i remember correctly it was one of his first tries so who gives a shit if its "shitty turndown" YEA DIABLO!!!
Does it matter? It's only the result that matters, and in this case the result was pretty nice. I'd rather take 100 shots and get one amazing, than 20 shots and none of them being good.
i'd like to know too b/c in other pics i've seen, it looks as if you may have to hit something to get on it, basically using the back of the north shore runway as a table
so how hard is this to get on to, and how hard do you really need to pedal to clear the gap at the end?
(this is a question for people who have riden Diablo since it opened May 3, 2008, thanks)
Much less than expected, the gap on in cake, then there is roughly 8ft to transition that when I first looked at it I thought would take a lot of speed, but after the first time I hit I realized you do not need that much speed. All in all the jump is Cherry.
its easy peasy, getting on is simple you dont even need to jump onto it, you can just monster truck up over the lip. Put in like 3 good pedal strokes and you're money........smooth
I disagree...it may not be the gnarliest, but it's different, not the usual head-on or side shot. Gives an impression of riding the whole trail rather than just hitting one bit for a photo. (though the watermark is annoyingly large).
I agree shallow and pedantic...(sweet...family guy) actually not really pretty sweet photog, like the mist. and honestly people if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.
