I Do not see only one side My friend. I was one of thoses poor struggling to survive families. My mother a single mother cried balled her eyes out when she was offered welfare and when the state came and said to her We the state will pay for your kids school lunches and supplys. She cried because it was FAILURE IN HER SELF. She refused the welfare and the handouts BECAUSE she knew it was her responsability SHE REFUSED TO ACCEPT FAILURE IN ONE SELF. So my mother single with 2 kids, No collage education, only parital High School education went out and got 4 count them 4 jobs she worked from 5am till 9pm 7 yes 7 days a week supporing her self and her two sons. Often leaving me and my bother to fend for ourselves from the time we left school at 330 till 930 when she got home. I prepared dinner everyday and my brother did laundry. Now my mother worked so hard she put both of her children through the schools of there choice. She now owns a cottage on a lake and a $850,000 home. HARD WORK DOES PAY OFF. NOW WHY CAN'T THE PEOPLE YOU "SERVE" KEY WORD "SERVE" MAKE IT.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so
many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal
Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of
higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words,
redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican,
a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had
participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that
her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what
he thought should be his.

self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the
truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she
was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and
let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was
taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which
left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She
didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many
college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?'
She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy
classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so
popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to
all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes
because she's too hung over.'
Her wise father asked his daughter, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's
office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend
who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly
that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.'
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired
back, 'That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really
hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work!
Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I
worked my tail off!'
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, 'Welcome to the
Republican party.'
If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between Republican
and Democrat I'm all ears.

I worked my ass off to finish my masters degree. I teach in the inner city and put in tons of work to teach my students how to develop strategies for learning and life outside of school. I make peanuts compared to the work I put in. I don't have my hand out. I don't think I am entitled to something for nothing. I serve the working poor of my city who have been abandoned by your big business republicans. Most of the families are in survival mode. Even more so now that the economy is tanking. Very few of them have their hands out. They have been left behind. Its all about the haves and the have nots. The gap is widening my friend. Another time in history where something similar to this current state of affairs happened where business and revenue dictated the rules, and common people were holding on by a thread, the colonies had a violent split from England. Your story has so many holes in it. So you are saying that all of the people who live below the poverty line have their hand out? Wrong! YOu are saying that America's working poor and impoverished people are there by choice? Wrong! You should come to the neighborhood where I teach and ask some of them. You must be one of the haves because you have turned a blind eye. At least the democratic party tries to offer services to help people get ahead. It seems as though the republican platform takes the "Its not our problem" stance. Maybe that is why the gap keeps getting wider.
