Agreed, too many people have lost the sense of what POD is, doesnt have to an incredable trick or rider, showing a gd trip out, riding and getting out their, POD is just a bonus
You guys Im not talking about an unbelievable trick...I mean this is just "great quality." But really, all it is, is a high speed drift on sand...No tight technical berms, no huge air, no fast flowy jumps etc. Anyone can go out on a bike, find a friend with a sick ass camera, and fly into a beach and drift.
So nathan, u saying u only want ppl to take shots of guys doing tricks & not just having fun on their bikes? Don't u think it would be boring to only have POD's with dirt jumps & flips & whips or a huge freeride or DH gap? Variety is the spice of life & if u love ur bike & riding it just sit back & enjoy a great pic of someone doing exactly the same... "Anyone can go out on a bike, find a friend with a sick ass camera, and fly into a beach and drift." yeah, so POD is open to everyone... seems fair to me...
exactly Eric, POD isnt a picture of the biggest gap or most crazy trick. POD is supposed to be a picture that captures the essence of mountain biking or bmxing or what ever. It must make you say: "wow, i wanna go ride now" not "O my f@*kin holy hell that guy is crazy". Before theres been PODs of guys on xc bikes riding alot a hill, everyone can do it but because of the scenery and the mood that the picture evokes in each individual is the reason its POD. I only do xc for fitness for dh and dont ride bmx at all but alot of the xc and bmx pods get me in the mood to ride.
POD isnt supposed to be anyhting. its whatever picture some guy at pink bike likes the most that day. it really pisses me off when people say things like "thats not worthy of POD" or when people go on a rant about what POD should be. that fact is it can be anyhting that stands out from the crowd in the opinion of some guy who prob spends about 10 mins a day sifting though all the thousnads of god awful pictures of seat clamps etc that are posted on pink bike.
I like the POD today but to be honest I was expecting one of the Diabloween pics to take it today. Mods: you know it's halloween, right? Sick pic today, but many of us were expecting something a little more festive.
POD should be something that makes you go "wow" though, be it the trick, the scenery, the colours, the composition. If I were to be over analytical about this photo, I'd say that the composition and angle are poor, the lighting is really flat, the colours look over saturated in parts/undersaturated in others, its just a skid, I could go on. I dont mean to sound harsh to the photographer or the rider as its their time and effort, and I respect the people that take photos, but what I'm trying to get at, is yes there is more to POD than the action, but this photo for me doesnt fall into any of the catagories that make me go "wow". If the photo was shot in an interesting way, with the rider coming right up close to the camera, or the lighting gave a surreal effect, then the same image could be made so much better
completely agree NBR... still like the shot even though it could have been done better & find it's often not the best trick or pic that gets POD for some strange reason. There are really amazing pics added every day & most of them never get or will get POD... I reckon whoever is choosing the POD's prob doesn't have much of a photographic background & just chooses what he likes that day even if it's not a very good shot, which kinda defeats the point of pic of the day... should either be an amazing pic &/or trick, not an average pic of an average trick, but hey we don't choose the POD's so I just enjoy the good ones that come along.
to nathanlawrence.....sure everyone can go out with their bike and drift into a dried up lake and take a picture with a sick as camera, but can they make it look as good as that picture??^^^^. not everyone can take that quality of a photo or drift with that sort of style and get just that right amount of lighting
Damn, I can remember shredding the lake when it was that low since 98. Fuck all you haters, there is a bunch of xc trails all around Folsom lake... why not shred on what your local terrain offers. You must have had some speed from the hill behind you... glad to see kids in EDH are still rippen.
O MY GOD WILL PEOPLE SHUT UP ABOUT HOW THIS IS NOT WORTHY OF POD THERES ALWAYS 2MORO
BLOODY SAD ACTS DOSE IT MATTER MABY ITS NOT THE BEST PICTURE OUT THERE I AGREE BUT DEAL WITH IT JESSSSS
give people a break why say its crap you go do beter you get POD simple NBR eric and any1 else its not like it has a criteria it just looks kool and poeple like it and tell you truth dont think any1 cares wot u think lol
I'd look through your own pictures before you make comments like that. And at what point (seeing as you are targeting me in that comment of yours) did I say it was Crap?? I don't think you'll find I did. I suggested what I thought was wrong with the picture and made crticism. Oh and if people didn't care what I think, I wouldn't have a job.
not unless theres an large body of permenant ice (glacier or similar)in or near the lake. global warming MAY raise sea levels, but these are diffrent to lake water levels. also people talk about climate change rather than global warming these days becuase no one can definately predict the effect of high co2 levels in the atmosphere. how bored do i have to be to write that......... this guy better turn up soon
Totally agree. The Pics ok, but the lighting is really flat, could have tried moving his flash around a bit to give some interesting lighting. At the end of the day, it is "just" a dude in a full face helmet... doing a skid...
Ya know what NBR, yeah sure it could've been a better shot ya maybe some dif lighting could've made it better. But i don't have the kind of money to invest in a strobe set up or even a top of the line camera. it's only a canon xti w/ a 50mm f1.4. I do what i can with what i have, and i enjoy photography.
I think someone's a little jealous if you ask me. Don't bash my work, its not cool and it'll get you nowhere in life, and i know that and i'm only 17...
