All the "POD kids" make me sick to dylaine, they all want props for saying POD. When in fact they are just stating to obvious.
I laugh at the "over shopped" comments..... Its an HDR photo, that's how the artist/ photographer wanted it. I bet you couldn't make such an awesome photo.
To put it simply , the Picture Of the Day feature on pinkbike is one of the lowest "maintenence" features of the site. Everyday the administration chooses a photo with quality suitable to be selected as what we know as POD, the only circumstance where it couldn't be pod is if it was a stolen, or pirated image, this mean's that stupid no-helmet bullshit everyone yaps about isn't true at all; I've heard it first hand from the team that though they do try to keep a responsible image of a rider wearing a helmet for their homepage, some photos are just far to amazing to not publish, only because of the riders choice not to wear a helmet. However there is no open vote for each day's photo, there is a thread in the Moderator lounge to compare or suggest Pictures and videos for each day...that being said, if you're really crazy about a photo or a video, you could suggest it to a moderator or an admin.
yet, no matter what photo is made POD, someone will always complain.
This is a wide angle lens. Which is why it is distorted at the edges. AKA not just photoshopped! It looks like all that really happened was adding more contrast! SO really it is just a sick picture with relatively mild photoshopping compared to some ho's out there.
That's not true. Of yourse it is a wide angle lense. But this special look is made different, if it is a real HDR (High Dynamic Range) and not a fake-HDR (just a normal Pic with a HDR-effect). HDRs are made by taking the same pic with a big range od exposures. So you get a lot of pics, where at least one part is exposed right. After you let them run throug a HDR Program which takes all the well exposed parts of each Image and puts them together. Then, there is still some photoshopwork needed (colorcorrection, inserting the rider from an other pic...)
this is a hdr photo for sure. look at the riders on the right hand side mccthug. you can not get contrast like that with just adjusting the contrast. But I wish he would have taken one that exposed the sky a little better. sick shot tho. keep em coming.
wow!!! damn thats nice... ... the whole picture is so fuckin awesome
sau geil!! wirklich... alles am bild stimmt... eins der besten pics die ich jemals gesehn hab...
POD!!
this photo symbolizes everything i hate about bike riding in this day and age over shoping lame flip tricks wood ramps its not even bikes anymore all you have to do is add a motor and call it fmx thats not what riding bikes is about cmon people
Hey man i really like that pic... just wondering how do you shop pics like this... i've been trying for a while but i'm not sure what to play around with. Any tips? Thanks. and love the shot
sorry kai high dynamic range photo is what is stands for, you should come over and I will show you how to do it. It is so easy, you will be suprized. We can have crazy hrd photos this year. I am trying to shoot a high dynamic range video right now. it should be crazy. I am shooting 100,000 photos today, then I am making a macro command to run all the photos thought hrd software, so I don't have to do them one at a time. Them I am going to combine them all together and speed each photo clip up by 22,000% and then render it out. I tried it with a short clip last night like 800 photos and it came out amazing; so now I am going to waste the whole day shooting this video and programing my computer to do this. I don't know what I have got my self into, lol. 100,000 HRD Photos sounds like crazy talk. it is hard enough to make one.
it will be intense; I hope it works. ya I thought of that. all ready and i will have to make the command produce 3 different light levels of each frame then combine them together in photoshop with the merge to hdr command. I hope my computer does not crash. lol
for sure; you should try this photo hdr video I am talking about. it is going to look killer and wish I could use it on something like biking; but I cant take enough raw images a second with a dslr; I need a red cam.
In order to make an HDR of an action shot, do you just take the seperate exposures before the rider hit the jump? I didn't think it was possible without changin the apperature on your computer afterwards, but I'm assuming it could work by taking different exposures prior to the trick?
Yup snoopy, Ive been thinking about this all day after checking out the pic during my morning coffee break. You can always do the bracketing (under and over) and then shoot the rider at the correct exposure last, bit more work but easly done I reckon. HDR looks sick so long as its kept as close to natural as possible, some of the over cooked shots out there are pretty bad.
man how do u do this hdr with one shot??/ wat program do u use. i use photomatix and use three different pics and then overlay them. but this looks like one. BITCHIN shot by the way
although this picture is great, and "epic" this is getting anoyying everyday there is some photoshopped pic.. Pinkbike has to start putting up some real pics that show the true $h1t about biking.. i hope everyone understands this is a great pic in all ways but you dont have emo clouds around you just show some natural pics...
Holy shit. That is such a sick picture every thing is good about it and it just looks so straight and alined... I don't care if that is photoshopped or not it is a damn nice pic best one in a while.
Awesome, I for one think the photo shop is near perfect. It's rare to see quality of that lvel of detail. I mean anyone can point and shoot pics but it's great to see a quality job for once.
Good stuff.
photoshopping and timing are spot on!!
props to the rider for the tuck no flip, and props to the photographer for their hard work.
a well deserved POD IMO
i really like the effects on the jumps and landing, that looks sick in my opinion. but the sky is the part that kinda looks overshopped. but lets all stop bitching and enjoy such a nice POD.
