What bars are those and i wish that i had the money to buy this ride too i saw it at your house and i was just like oh my god so sexy but ya the blk mrkt i threw some of my parts on and you should check it out now its in my pics
if you havn't noticed that most fullies have gears and not very many are single speed, i may be wrong but the distance between the BB and the rear cogs changes on a fully which is loosening and tightening the chain while being ridden so it may snap.. sorry i scrambled that paragraph together
First of all, it's not a single pivot. Second of all, even if it was a single pivot, it still wouldn't be able to be run singlespeed without a dual pulley tensioner. The Cowan DS frame is a four-bar link with something called a "concentric bottom bracket," which means that the main pivot is around the bb, hence the distance between it and the axle remains the same througout its travel, negating the need for a chain tensioner. Believe me, I had the exact same frame not too long ago.
Seraph, actually it IS a single pivot design due to the location of the axle being on the chain stay. You are correct about the concentric bottom bracket though - the chain length is constant regardless of where the suspension is in its range of motion.
The linkage is defined by the number of pivots between the frame and the axle. To consider a suspension type to be multiple pivot, more than one pivot has to affect the axle path which is not the case in the simple 4-bar design.
The 4-bar linkage that Kona uses is usually referred to as a "faux-bar" because it resembles the 4-bar Horst linkage, but is still effectively a single pivot. The only purpose of the "multiple" links is to provide more flexibility in actuating the shock. Frames like Rocky Mountain's RMX are definitely single-pivot designs, and have just as many bars and pivots as the Kona 4-bar.
That said, it is worth differentiating between a basic single pivot like the Cannondale Gemini or SC Bullit and a 4-bar linkage like Kona's because of how the shock is actuated, but it is deceiving to label it a multi-pivot when in fact it is really just a link-actuated single-pivot.
Hey I know all of this. I've been in the bike industry for 12 years. All I was saying is that it's not a stereotypical single pivot, like the aformentioned SC and Cannondale frames.
To say "single pivot design" is misleading, because in reality there is more than one pivot. "Single pivot suspension design" would be more accurate, since it relates directly to the suspension and not the frame, linkage, etc.
ummm so basically u all forgot u still shouldnt run such a tight chain because it means when u go through the travel the wheel will be forced to move because on compression the top of the chain will be loosened and the bottom will be tightened and on the rebound the opposite is true... try tieing a peice of string and grab both sides (because a chain cant slide past the chain teeth on a ring) and rotate one side around the other... ull instantly realize wuts going on... and it doesnt matter on the compression cus the free wheel will click but it will lock up ur suspension a bit when ur trying to rebound.
Cause the parts that are on them plus how often can you get a single speed full suspension that weighs as much as a hardtail ??!? Plus have you ever riddin one?
Nope it's designed so the chain won't loosen up and I haven't ridden it there's no need for it over hear it's just dh and bmx over here so I don't need it
alot over 3000 everythings brand new except the frame and argyle and 5.0 but the shock and fork are rebuilt so brand new lol and everything else is brand new
umm.. cowans you buy the frame.. and then i biult it up from there.. i reaserached the lightest strongest possible parts.. adn built it up ..spent alot on it and i dont wanna waste it all i just realized dj is not me.. i like downhill and big jumps i will trade for a truck plus cash of coarse
ok .. lol it would be heavier because you wouldnt have that sproket and single speed hub so then thatd be a bit heavier.. and then you add the derailor and shifter .and BAM theres 2 pounds heavier or 3 or w.e the fuck it is i dunno i dont care cause i dont have that on my bike..
