To Dubhex...get a new cassette if thats the one you are using...something like a shimano cassette or just a sram cassette will do, just don't cheap out on it. get a xtr chain as well or a wipperman btw.
Want to go faster, want to change my style (instead of low-speed fakie tech, fast gaps and shit). I'm very surprised, so far not as many people as I'd expected have told me gears suck. Pinkbike is becoming more tolerant!
Yeah I see what you mean, I like SS, but I like gears just as much for other reasons. I don't think people on here think gears suck, they just think single speed is better (+ trendier) cause almost everyone else is SS. I would probably have kept my gears if I had a better setup going. I spent about $100 replacing my derailleur hanger constantly and just got sick of it (it was when I was learning 180's and foot jams so I fell quite a bit:P).
It's definitely an expensive decision to make (and maintain). I'll be switching back to SS if I want to do fakie stuff, and it does cost quite a bit to get a set-up worth running. I can see why everyone would go SS; the Deore derailleurs that come stock on most street completes suck ass.
haha yea. I had a sram x5 I think, and it would just bounce around so much and it would be skipping gears all the time + it was almost always not aligned properly so the gears wouldn't change smoothly or change at all. But I see you got an x0 so that should work out better for you.
That was my experience with my stock X-5 as well. I love singlespeed, but I'd definitely be open to going geared again with a short-cage X0 if one fell into my lap.
If you want cheap parts to fall into your lap, sit under the Craigslist tree. 2 X.0 derailleurs, an LG-1, an X9 shifter, a (brand new) Profile sprocket, and that cassette cost me like $130. Friends and keeping an eye open.
