If only mine could look, or stay like that... done twice, both shrivelled back up.

 Gotta get REALLY good heatshrink.

I'll get googling for some. In the meantime, you mentioned you used a butane torch. Is this a butane & propane mix? If so, why? I tend to stick away from that stuff for heatshrinking due to it burning at over 2000 degrees celcius. I've got a heatgun instead, but if a butane torch will work I'll try it.

Cus the kiddies on here dont want to BUY a heat gun. You just stay a few inches back with the flame, and watch for scorching. Its not hard at all.

Good point, they're happy to spend their (parents) money on bike parts. But won't on tools.

I'll stick to the heatgun, it works just fine and is a lot safer. The B & P torch at work regularly combusts around the handle, because of us silly mechanics using it with oily/greasy/flammable hands. Smile

As a side note, my seals still squeal like a bugger, even worse when they've been used well in the day. It sometimes grips the stanchions enough so that 5mm of the travel doesn't go out until you pull the lowers down slightly (this is in the stand). I've tried judy butter, I've tried suspension greases. Should I just get some new oil and some seals?

You said use a lighter and I did! Held the flame close to the rubber and just watched for burning. You should of taken a picture of my heat shrink tube job cause I swear it was good.

Seals oil, and I lube seals with sram redrum when I install them. Makes for a buttery fork.

Redrum made them stickier. :S It was like having a very, very weak version of the Manitou SPV.

I've tried using some 7.5wt on the stanchions to see, no luck.
I've tried Stendec Crystal glide silicone lube, no luck.
I've tried Fox float fluid pillows, no luck.
I've tried the Judy butter, I've tried RedRem, I've tried some old neon blue grease. All, no luck.

I guess this means time for new seals, an oil change and for me to spend more money on the bugger. Right? I've gotta say, this problem and the slightly bend brake mounts are making me want to just sell the fork and get a Fox 36 Float.

Well the big thing with sticky seals is oil. Lots of suspension fluids have "seal swell" in it to make forks not leak... Maxima does not. Pretty sure silkolene doesnt either. So new seals + good oil and you should be golden. Torco DOES have seal swell btw.

Sorry, didn't read your post right. My last question is answered. Just gotta check the budget because of my little weight weenie outburst. Wages = gone.

If they leak and not stick, that's fine by me. Maintenance is of little concern if I get good performance from it. tup

They wont leak. RS actually makes good seals.

Yup, I can't fault RockShox for that. They're one SRAM division that I stand by.

I was very happy to see that the new boxxer springs have 3 sections of heat shring just like that!
