that's a great shot, usually it's the background that's a duller colour than the rider, but this is the other way round and i like it! and THAT'S what i call a rock garden!
it somehow looks fake... still very cool looking though. the tires look like there is no weight on them at all. still deserves pod cuz its an awesome picture no matter what
Would be awesome if he wasn't wearing that awful soulcycles jersey. Worst shop I have ever dealt with. Great for wanna-be's and 'tourist' type riders. But for real service, no. Cool spot though.
Regarding suicide downhiller - I might take into consideration anything you had to say if you weren't a 14 year old kook, high wheel hucker who smokes pot and drinks beer in bushes. You wouldn't know a good shop if it kicked you out of it. Oh wait, they did! Don't be bitter, it's ugly.
in all fairness to suicide downhiller just cos hes niaeve doesnt mean he cant have his opinion never been to soul cycles i imagine its quite nice but bad bike shop really grind my gears (quite litteraly)
What's wrong with being a hucker? And you guys don't know the story. They suck at customer service, and they overcharge alot. My friend brought his bike in, and never will again, because he needed a new derailer. It was obviously snapped, and the dumbass owner, dave or something, says he needs a new hanger. His bike does not have a hanger. The frame acts as the hanger. Nor was his swingarm bent. So, my story, I went in there, and my dad was talking to him, and it came up that was sponsored by karpiel. Dave got in my face and said I need to stop claiming to be a pro rider, and that it's impossible to ride for a company that closed over 4 years ago. I never claim to be pro. I'm no where close to pro. Later that month I show up with my karpiel and he kicks me out of the shop for proving him wrong I suspose. Absolute prick. Just a washed up old guy, who's going bald, and can't ride a bike anymore, so he sponsors kids who LIE about their age to race in easier classes. I mean come on! The guy in my class, 18 under, lives in his own condo, full beard, and probably has a couple kids running around somewhere.
Dave, you were nice to me last time, but think before you speak, and don't take out your middle life crisis on kids by putting them down and telling them they can never go pro. And tell your mechanics to stop putting in tubes twisted, I've fixed several tubes at the field that you guys put in twisted. Wow. And learn the difference between a headset and bottom bracket.
wooooh! calm down a little bit ... i didnt noticed that the guy is in air because the angle is very bad!! and because of that i dont see any takeoff spot. And the postprocessing are so bad that gives me a feeling of fake and unnatural. In the photo i see a biker going down a rock garden but he looks like he is stamped there....there is no sensasion of moving. Now let the negative props flow... because i dont care.
i agree just looks like you pasted him in there than shopped it to make it look like he was actually there cause it looks like he is on the rocks but there is no shock compression and the tires are perfectly round!!
Very interesting shot. Gnarly rock garden.
I like the fact that jerryhazard is chiming in and letting us know a bit about how he achieved the effects and what he was after aesthetically. Makes for a richer exchange in the comment section.
this is photo shopped its only obvious there is no shadow and look under the wheels it just doesnt match up. . . whatever, i can care less but their is defiantly more worthy pictures on pinkbike that deserve the title over this.
Interesting photo. I like the colours. Too much editing though. It doesn't look real, it looks painted. If that is what you were going for then power to you. Kinda ruins it for me though.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment - appreciated. And yeah, I was going for a more bleak looking image, so many Moab shots are juiced up for color saturation. Sorry the editing spoils it for you, but I appreciate the comment. Peace - Jerry
wow... tough crowd in here. Props to Jerry for POD #2. Anyone who thinks it's fake needs to get out and ride with Jason (pictured) and see if you can keep up with him on this trail. Check our galleries for more of their shots from the same ride.
here it comes the negative props, but i think that are really better fotos here than this that deserve a lot more been pods.... the rider seens that don't belong there.... i'm not saying he wasn't there but it gives that ideia in my opinian.... did not deserve to be pod...
1. The shot is not "fake" - it is not a digital composite.
2. It does "look like" but is not HDR. Look up what HDR really is, how its accomplished, expand your mind bit.
3. It is one exposure only.
4. The fork is actually compressed a bit.
5. Its not HDR
6. Thank you!
I did have an entire crazy diatribe to hash out, but really, I just want to thank those that keep a positive attitude, and I appreciate the comments.
It edited in Lightroom, I won't say exactly what I did - but I will once more say "IT IS NOT HDR". It is also not tone mapped. I did use photoshop, but only to sharpen and tweak the color a little bit more.
And here, for all those who are convinced that it is "fake" since the suspension is blah blah, or the wheels are blah blah... Or there is no shadow blah blah...
Great pic bud, is there some kind of rule that says the pics can't be edited? I don't think there is. Some pics are modified because they are fake ,others are tweaked just to make for a better finished product. No harm,no foul.
I know and love that trail, best ride I have done in the Moab area. If only it was longer but if you do it on a bike that pedals, you can get a loop done in under an hour. Or several loops in however long you want to spend. Its well worth it.
lol - yeah, my sensor needs a good cleaning. If I had a real monitor to work on, I'd have cleaned that up. I'm surprised that it made POD.. THanks for the thoughtful comment!
all around awesome..the way the amber rocks reach for the calm blue sky and the grey rider looks like he just popped into place..sweet contrast..awesome..POD!
I don't understand why you guys picked up this photo as a POD. There is nothing ...NOTHING AT ALL. Colors... nothing special if you know how to work with Photoshop or other editing software. Timing wrong... Shooting angle totaly wrong... Rider position on bike... you need to look more aggressive to lok good on the bike and on the photo, not only rool down the rocks.
There are tons of lot better photos on Pinkbike.
Definitely NOT POD.
That looks like the lower part of Porky, right before the stream crossing. Definitely a tough line. As to the photo, a bit heavy on the post processing. Meh.
I understand it has the "hdr look", but its far from truly being an HDR image. So I do deny the HDR accusation... in fact, this image barely touched photoshop at all. I will say of course that the contrast and saturation have been pretty tweaked, but it was all done in Lightroom, no HDR stuff at all. Cheers!

perhaps you all just don't read, and look at pretty pitcherz...

I think your reading comprehension skills are lacking, as you just don't seem to understand what either of us have said. Yes, the photo has been edited, that is why there is an original, which I liked better than the edited one that we see here.
for the idiots who think that it was photoshopped: The rider IS NOT photoshopped in whatsoever. His rear wheel is just about to come off the rock ledge. The only reason why it looks photoshopped is because the differences between the contrasts in the background and foreground.
10 facts 1.Your reading my comment 2. Now your saying/thinking thats a stupid fact. 4. You didnt notice that i skipped 3. 5. Your checking it now. 6. Your smiling. 7. Your still reading my comment. 8. You know all you have read is true. 10. You didnt notice that i skipped 9. 11. Your checking it now. 12. The photoshopping is obvious come on!! look at the front and rear shock..no compresion..on that rockgarden !? ya right. And look at the tires... stiff as rock, especially the rear one.
Both tires happen to be in the air, hence the uncompressed suspension and perfectly shaped tires. With an eye like yours thats so capable of noticing the inconsistencies of shopping a rider into a picture, I'd imagine that you'd be able to recognize a real picture when you see one too.
Actually, the majority of post processing was done in Lightroom - meaning exposure adjustment and colors. A little contrast and sharpening was achieved in photoshop.
If you mean to say that this is a rider pasted in to a background, then I tell you - as the person who shot it - you are absolutely wrong.
Have a great day - and thanks everybody for the comments - Jason is a badass rider, and I appreciate he let me photograph him.
A bit over sharpened to my eye but it is technically well done to be sure (and makes me want to get my hands on a copy of lightroom). I love the composition and timing too. Great atmosphere!
congratulations, you are the winner of today's "Douchebag-Who-Yells-Photoshop-When-It-Obviously-Isn't-And-Should-Be-Kicked-In-The-Face" award, better known as the daily DWYPWIOIASBKITF Award[\B].
LOL @ Mazekwon! You should create little trophies with that plaque on it and pass them out to douchebags. It will take them forever to figure out what the abbreviation means.
