I just watched the footage, it is simply amazing. just wait a couple weeks, gotta finish editing Blindside vid first. The camera in the photo is so sweet (Panasonic HPX170) and the 24p HD footage is insanely smooth.
I'm only shooting on DV at the mo, but hoping to buy 2x Pany HVX201s for work soon. Did the HPX170 allow you to shoot in 60fps mode at 1080 or just 720? To me, that's where Pany have it over Sony...certainly at this end of the kit range. The Pany slo-mo is so fine!
The HVX is equally as awesome as the HPX, with the bonus of a tape drive, which does add weight. I've never shot in 60fps, just not the look I am currently going for. I started shooting 30fps but ended up at 24 just because it looks so rad. Filming at 24fps and overcranking to 60fps yields amazing slomo, just buttery and super dramatic. When I first got the camera I was wondering why I paid so much for it, but after finishing a couple vids I really appreciate the quality of output and the full manual controls. The only thing I have had an issue with is the white balance, but it just takes a little extra work.
I think you should invest in one of these: http://www.pstechnik.de/en/digitalfilm-mini35-connect.php or http://www.movietube.de/index2.php...or at least see if you can hire one (bit cheaper that way). I've shot on the MOVIEtube and the difference it makes to your footage is absolutely amazing...and I was recording to HDV at the time! But for now, I'm still stuck with my DV camera...ugh!
Nope. Someone dropped it and shattered LCD screen. $700 to fix it. Sold it after that. Too big, too heavy, too expensive for riding with it on your back.
Epic place to film though!
