This is a TINY little 2' drop, the place is really ugly and really hard to shoot, figured I'd shoot this baby drop with a fisheye and get close, making it look gnarlier than it is.
For the flare conspiracy theorists: here is a pic of all dozen or so RAW files and note all of them have the nasty flash flare http://craigglaspell.com/idiots.jpg
stinkyboy09 - WTF! youve just disrespected the photographer! a bike doesnt just get this sort of picture on its own, plus the photography work is immense and if hes telling the truth to get a pic this good with no photoshop at all is pretty dam good if you ask me
Hey all! wow, super cool this made POD! woohoo. Thanks for all the kind words, thanks to the haters too, good to hear both sides of the spectrum. Funny some think i added that 'flare', how gross, I never would add one of those cheesy elements, it is my other strobe that is flaring. And at 100% there is surprisingly a lot of sharp/in focus elements, wasnt enough flash freeze to make it all sharp, it was hella sunny. Not much you can do at this race for cool pics, its so ugly out there, so it is what it is. Thanks again everyone. Stikman www.craigglaspell.com
man, just let me tell you that when something amazing is about to happen (like you shot), there is nothing anyone can do to avoid it. The right time and the right place. Congrats.
to freerider8 why does there need to be a trick to make a pod. its called dh riding its one big trick all you free riders do is drop off of shit i dont see you out there racing and hauling ass down the mountain all you do is jump across it.
Sweet pic. If youre getting the flash in the shot i was wondering why you would use it at that angle when you're shooting straight at it.? It looks pretty light there, Obv i don't know the exact conditions, but it looks like you couldve put it further right just out of frame? At least thats what i would usually try to do. Still, really cool!
I wanted a little rim light, it was quite a ways back, but the fisheye on a fullframe just grabs soo much of the scene. I did not like the flare, thats why I took a dozen or so shots and moved on, shooting races its a run and gun sort of deal, this was no photoshoot.
Hey Porter, send me an email and I will send you the other images from this section, all with the same flash-until I moved it out of the way. I can show you the raw file as well. Not that I give a f_ck if you believe me or not, just find it crazy you think I would add something so wack as a 'fake flare'
Please do not get caught up in the flame wars here. Most of these pre pubescent kids wouldnt know what an SLR was if it was shot out of a Canon... Your photos will get recognition here because its sport specific but your efforts will get recognition on the other photo specific sights that you utilize.
Nice work Stikman. Looks like you've been doing well since your wrenching days.
Ignore the haters, they probably can't even spell their own names right let alone appreciate a good shot.
Cool shot. I just wish the angle wasn't tilted to exaggerate the steepness of the trail. Its Fontruckstop right? That trail is flatter than an ironing board
Kelsey, that was about my 4th time taking pics there. I swore I was never going back after the last time, but my wife decided to race, so I shot some pics.
Cheers
Sick PIC Stik. Shooting Fontucky sucks, it would be easier to get a good image in a garbage dump! Take yourself out of the bottom left. Many people want to see huck shots instead of race shots on here.
Yeah, but unfortunately it's hardly ever constructive here... normally like the guy just above this post... "he's not doing a trick, this sux!" kinda thing & that's not very helpful or constructive. Go to Photosig.com if you want to crit photos.
Nicely done. Crisp perfectly plain blue sky, nice up close shot, sick flare and I think it's pretty cool how the picture is intense with an intense frame lol.
or if you had read the description, where the photog'r put down 6 lines of explaination about the flare..... 3rd bozo to miss the completely obvious :/
flash is to perfect to be real and the fact his leg doesnt stop the light shows its photoshoped if u look half the flare is over his leg, now legs cant reflect like that.
You guys are good fun...dont know if links appear on this thing, but here is a pic of ALL the RAW files I shot. You can not edit a raw file and save it as a raw file (note the .cr2 naming). Note most all these shots have that darn flash in them, the reason I only shot a dozen or so pics before moving to the next spot. Well, I actually moved because people were SO sketchy off that tiny rock, I got scared and bailed. craigglaspell.com/idiots.jpg
haha man, don't try to polish a turd, there are some things the kids on here just won't get, no matter how much you explain & rationalize. Been there tried that. Nice work tho man, did really well with not very much.
Unless you've ever used a DSLR and shot into the sun/ a bright light source then you can be forgiven for thinking it's fake. For instance, i can tell you just by looking at the flare that the lens the photographer is using has 7 aperture blades. And from that i can tell that it's probably the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye. If you're not into photography you wouldn't be expected to know these things, would you?
what is a fake tilt?...for the 100th time, the flare is from my other flash and I am pretty sure in the photo description I said this was the most meaningless, easiest little rock drop ever. Font is a bit boring, but they use it for all the toyota tundra stuff, I kinda like it. No worries on not getting love, maybe next time? Cheers
No. I wasn't. I was being honest, BUT, I could have expressed it more diplomatically.
I thought my rejoinder to the poster's response was making that clear.
You can see he has skills. I just thought that I'd point out that I thought he was propping up the work with easy tricks, or at least it looked that way.
He's no kid, I thought he might take some critique at an honest level.
I don't know why you cut my last comment.
shondo, I did not perform any 'tricks'...but you don't like the photo, I will live. I don't think its all that rad anyways, hence the reason I put it on the web. I save all my sweet stuff for gigs that pay. Happy weekend.
Stik
why must there always be tricks? its a solid downhill pod and the closeness to the rider makes it lokk pretty cool. but i have to confess that the flare actually looks edited...maybe it isnt but it looks like that to me.
Sorry to hate, freerider8, but your spelling and grammar in the above post don't show no writing skills, and your proofreading was alright but not 100%.
Tricks don't necesarily mean the rider has skill, he could just be some crazy kid who is not afraid to get hurt. Downhill racing like David K. in the picture takes skill. He also won this race by mor than 2 seconds. The camera workis totally sick! I thought the rock garden was already gnarly enough, but the tilt adds to the sketch!
