 not 416?
  • 3 0
416 is taken by Norco and Ryan Senechal. Although I'm sure he would not mind you stealing their trademark.
  • 1 1
sucks how an area code, is now a trademark in a different industry. is it actually? it seems absurd for a trademark to be granted as it's just a 3 digit number...
  • 1 1
IDK. I can tell you this, that thing was specced riiiiiiiiiiiiiight up my alley. Seems like Senny and I are quite alike.

If you shop around the 831 is a little more expesive then the float fit rlc 15mm. Contrary to belief the 831 is a different and better fork.
  • 2 0
I know the difference dude. I'm just having fun. The Float 32 was the starting point for the 831, that's it.
  • 2 0
I got ya. A lot of people are bitching about the price and think the float is the same thing. Wasn't directed at you Reck.
  • 4 0
I saw the argument. It made me LOL. I am in love with my Float RLC 15, so considering how much better the 831 is, it will be worth every penny. The people complaining have no money and hate the concept of 15mm.
  • 3 1
Actually, I take issue with the fact that they're marketing it as a DJ fork when it's no more DJ-worthy than a nicely tuned 32 Float. Their real DJ fork is the 36 Float, you'd think they'd market a slammed version of that if anything.
  • 1 0
Dude, it has the internal shit so you can lower it without spacers to whatever the fuck height you want. No more hunting down spacers. They just assume that most people will set it to their height of preference or leave it at 100.
  • 2 1
That isn't exactly what I meant. I acknowledge that. I mean structurally. The 831 just shows the strange zeitgeist of dirt jumping these days, "let's modify the AM fork rather than the freeride fork". Anyways, luckily they haven't discontinued the real shit.
  • 2 0
No it doesn't. It still takes spacers to lower it. It has one inside to put it at 100mm and comes with another of you want to lower it to 80mm. If you take the one out it will go to a max of 120mm. It does have a different feel then the float and is over a pound lighter the the 36 float. I currently have the 831 and the float 36 rc2 lowered to 80mm. I had the float rlc 15mm sold that. The 36 is the weight basically of an Argyle 409 and blows it out of the water.

My Float is an AM fork, correct? It is more than sufficient for dirt jumping. That said, Fox made what I would consider a valiant effort in developing the 831. I respect the fact that they have gone with the 32 and 15mm. Yes it's a cash grab, but so be it. It's not a step down. They realize that there will still be a large portion of people still buying 36 Floats for structural integrity concerns, but look at all the companies that are making 15mm front hubs this season. Like it or not, it's happening. It's our fault for counting grams. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a 20mm version next season because of all the bitching and whining. Or I see a lot of people converting to 15mm LOL.
  • 2 1
Well a HUGE part of the reason the 15mm standard exists is because the 32 isn't wide enough for 110mm hub spacing, so 20mm lowers are out of the question. Which I find so silly. Standards should never be developed on a basis that shaky.
  • 1 0
Or people that are particularly rough on their shit get a 36 and stop whining. Razz
  • 1 0
The 15mm is pleanty stiff and 15mm hubs and conversion kits are easy to come by. So the argument that I have a 20mm Hope, Hadley, Atomlab, Azonic outlaw is null and void.
  • 2 2
 CR, you wrong mang.
  • 3 0
How are the 32mm body not wide enough to fit a 20mm axle? Fox is the only company to NOT do it. Rockshox has the Pike, Argyle, Reba, Revelation. Marzocchi has the 4X and DJ1 and DJ2 (?) Manitou had the Sherman Jumper and Gold Label.

What needs to happen is RockShox' thinking and Fox' thinking together. Rockshox stepped the Reba and Revelation to a 20mm axle, but left the damper the same. Fox left it at 15mm but changed the damper. RockShox' stiffness idea + Fox' cartridge idea = Amazing fork! Anyone disagree or want to point something out?
  • 4 1
I want to point out that you are completely correct.
  • 1 0
I love the controversy and arguments that the 831 has caused. Razz
  • 2 1
I want to point out that I said the Fox 32 platform was too narrow, not that a 32mm stanchion was too small for a 20mm axle... But yeah, you right.

 reply to fifth post:

my fork has spacers in it already?

 32 float rlc 10'
  • 1 1
shit , 5post from the top of my screen. so , whatever post your talking about the floast being able to be set at w.e travel u want... i replied 2
  • 1 0
No the 2010 Float RLC does NOT have spacers in it. You have to get spacers from Fox and do it yourself. The 831 has a 20mm spacer in it. This sets it at 100mm and it comes with an extra spacer to lower it to 80mm. Max travel on the 831 is 120mm with no spacers.
  • 1 2
ahh , remind me not to try n be tricky whilst stoned. thx for telling me b4 i ripped it apart lol :o
  • 2 0
Also why market a slammed 36 when you can do it yourself? What they need is a fork in the 180mm range. They are behind the Totem and 66 in that market.
  • 3 1
The float with the 15mm is good for dj and 4x the qr is not, the qr dropouts snap frequently when used with a 10mm nutted axle.
  • 1 1
 Nobody said anything about QR...
  • 2 2
Ok Fox thinking is that 15mm is lighter then a 20mm. And put it even on their xc forks the F series. Their logic was that the axle and the hub would be a lighter setup. Considering companies are just converting their 20mm hubs to 15mm their so no weight saved at the hub. Also the 20mm axle is marginally heavier then the 15mm. We can't just blame Fox the 15mm standard. It was created by Shimano and is also used by Marzocchi. RS refused to use it and came out with the maxle light. Now the 831 is the lightest dj 4x fork on the market. It os over a pound lighter then the pike, argyle,36,4x, dj series. So they have done something right. The Reba and the Revelation are xc forks like the Fox f-series and should not be compared to the other forks. Only problem with the 15mm is that people are thick headed and refuse to embrace it.

 Well said.
  • 1 0
i thought the revelation was their all mountain line comparable to the 32s... at least weight wise they are and now with the new redesign have improved greatly in chassis sturdiness compared to their flexy pasts. sids being the competitor to the f-series, both hovering around 3 pounds.

Reck see what you started.........LOL and CRS is wrong. Enough said.
let's move on. I must be running my pink a lot stiffer then you because I don't have a problem hitting the seat on the tire. Yes I do like your mud flappy thing and will eventualy make one. What gearing did you go with?
  • 1 0
I am @ 210 PSI right now and I can still get it to hit the pivotal preloading jumps. Otherwise, I like 200+. The mudflap is KEY. I went with 25-12, and I almost want to toss on a bigger chainring. Like a 28 tooth or something.
