  • 3 2
naw hes got a coaster brake and some pilot headgear going there
  • 8 5
 chances are.. its a fixie,
  • 5 5
chances aren't. how'd you expect him to pedal being bent like that?
  • 11 3
considering he found it from the early 1900's, and the first cassettes/freewheels werent invented till about 1925-1930.

so, chances ARE that he is on a fixie, and that he bossed up instead of being afraid to pedal.

then - along came the velodrome

 DIPI! (DUDE IS PINNING IT!)
  • 2 0
The freewheel was invented in the late 1880's just after the pneumatic tyre. The first coaster brakes appeared in the 1890's.
(wikipedia, bicycle history)

I don't think that boy or that man leaned like that in a berm on a fixed gear bike. The pedal would hit the ground. Or he would have to lean in and back out when the inner pedal goes down, but that would just be weird, wouldn't it?
  • 4 0
Funny because when i looked it said 1925-1930. Wikipedia obviously isnt a reliable resource to argue with...
  • 3 0
Let's just state this, since we will never know:

- It's a cool photo
- Props for pinning it like that with narrow slicks on loose dirt
  • 1 0
At what point did anyone say the photo was from the 1900's? So chances are that this picture was taken the week it got uploaded... Meaning it could be freewheel... But yeah... I hate digging up old debates...
  • 1 0
 bweger1234 assumed so.
  • 1 1
if he had a damn freewheel he would have brakes on his bike, wouldnt he?....
  • 1 0
 a torpedo brake maybe?
  • 1 0
 which is?
  • 3 0
The coaster brake, also known as a back pedal brake or foot brake (or torpedo in some countries), is a type of drum brake integrated into hubs with an internal freewheel. Freewheeling functions as with other systems, but when back pedaled, the brake engages after a fraction of a revolution. The coaster brake can be found in both single-speed and internally geared hubs.

When such a hub is pedaled forwards, the sprocket drives a screw which forces a clutch to move along the axle, driving the hub shell or gear assembly. When pedaling is reversed, the screw drives the clutch in the opposite direction, forcing it either between two brake pads and pressing them against the shell, or into a split collar and expanding it against the shell. The braking surface is often steel, and the braking element brass or phosphor-bronze, as in the Birmingham-made Perry Coaster Hub.

mate, your welsh, your just encouraging welsh racism. and 'unanimous' would mean that everyone agrees, which they don't. i get the refrence but theres no point saying 'are you welsh' when its blatantly obvious that he's canadian.

Im sorry that you lack the humour needed to appreciate a joke. The joke "why did the chicken cross the road" doesnt literally mean a chicken crossed a road pal...

Tbh im not a winey bitch who thinks that the term sheep shagger is racist... because the welsh arent a separate race to the English. Im an truely sorry that you cant understand one of my jokes. ill leave you with this link to some bike related comedy - www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcWDmTZdU_M (farmer jack isnt actually riding the bike though Razz )
