How good is it for uphill riding or 10km trip ? I know my question is a little bit funny but I am just curious if I could use it as a one bike for everything..
Haven't test it that way yet, but I have high expectation from that frame and believe it can do pretty well on longer distances. I also think the pedaling efficiency will depend of the shock/travel setup. At 180mm this bike will be completely different beast than on shorter setups. I will be changing the travel now to 135mm with my 216mm shock (this suits better jumping, 4X and twisty trail riding), long seatpost also ready to put on and I will be off for some AM/trail riding soon - I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for fast reply. I'll be looking forward to hearing how it goes. And I've got one more little question: Can you really configure the frame for 180mm travel? I'm asking because scott.pl says that it has 150-170 mm of travel... How is it for real?
Standard FR 30 can be set 150-170mm, you need different shock length and shock mounts to run it at either 160-180, or 135-150mm travel. In my case I just changed the shock length and kept the standard shock mounts - the bike geometry is still OK though. Check out the Voltage FR forum for more useful setup tips.
Running 216mm E2E shock on standard 222mm shock mounts, giving the choice of 135 or 150mm travel.
Shorter shock is lowering the BB slightly but not affecting the head tube angle as I am running a shorter forks.
Matter of taste dude. To be honest I'm not convinced about the 'red' at all, but have no other spare wheels/discs at the moment. Ideally I would keep it only green/white/black - I'm not a big fan of too much blink.
Thanx, it took probably around 5-6 hours. I had all parts clean and ready to fit and was not in rush. More than half of that time I spent setting the camera position and focus.
sick build man! 32 pounds for a solid free ride bike is awesome. How does the DHX Air 5.0 feel? when i get my fr10 in im thinking of going with that shock.
Thanx man. DHX feels great, but I think it has a lot to do with good frame/linkages design. I was riding the Giant Reign '08 before with both, DHX and Monarch HV and could not tell the difference between the shocks.
Yea dude, Strong, Light and resonably priced what more could you ask for? ( if you thinking they are weak, look around you see people running them on DH race bikes )
Im just saying that people don't give SLX cranks the credit deserved, I was saying that they are strong enough for people on there DH rigs. And the SLX cranks are lighter than atlas FR and AM, Saint ( duh ) and alot of other cranks.
PNWFreeride, I do agree with you. I was making a point to -dougierandom's- comment. The SLX are really stiff. However it's a shame Shimano did not put the steel pedals inserts on their triple chainring model - what if at some point you want to convert them to single/double ring setup and use on your gravity bike?? - then you will most likely snap the thread as unfortunately happened to me (fixed by fitting a pedal insert and no problems since).
