the new Argyle is essentially a rebranded pike, and a 831 is lot more flexy then the pike. a lowered pike with a X-firm spring is pretty much an ideal fork for street/dirt.
people used to... they don't any more. The forks probably feel better, because they would be re-lubed when put back together, but that's all that would change.
A Pargyle IS a pike, it is no lighter, no stronger. The Argyle RCT is a re-branded pike, however the valving has been slightly modified, and yes i am a reliable source, i talked to Sram about it at Sea Otter.
Kid, stop listening to what "everyone" says and do some research before claims like it's lighter and stronger.
The 831 is mildly flexier, but if you aren't a hack is perfectly fine, I'll be riding one this season so a full review on that will have to checked up on later, however i anticipate it will be excellent, after briefly riding others.
Older argyles used steel steerers, stanchions, and upper crowns. Pikes used aluminum steerers, stanchions, and upper crowns. The lowers of pikes and argyles were both magnesium, so color and decals are the main difference in the lowers (there may be a slight weight difference). If you took an argyle and added pike uppers it would be lighter than a standard argyle. If you took a pike and added argyle uppers, you would have a heavier fork than a standard pike. The new argyle uses aluminum uppers and steerers, but it still uses steel stanchions. I'm not 100% sure about the RCT but according to the website it uses steel stanchions. Therefore, you could still save a little bit of weight by switching to aluminum stanchions, but that is where the flex comes into play. I had a 2005 pike team and a 2007 argyle 409. I definitely noticed the weight difference between the two.
are 719s strong enough? Im thinking about running them in the front of my pinscher, but dont know how long they'll hold up. also what did they do to the le pink? rear end is different? that dob is soo nice!
good front rim, lace it well, and its solid in the rear too... you might wanna go for a 521 rear.
they increased the tire tolerance in the rear triangle.
