Have'nt had a POD like this one in a while...
  • 30 6
I remember ripping along that thing, I got really good traction on it but if you come in wrong I guess this could happen. But I haven't seen it this year.

ouch... like they say dirt dont hurt... putting cinder blocks in a berm not the smartest... all the best in the healing process.
  • 54 2
Full armour didn't help this time :/ IMHO concrete is not the best material for berms.

  • 5 5
i have that pressure suit, does it work?
  • 25 10
of course it works, if you want to be nicely restricted and fall off, u can't go wrong with a pressure suit. enjoy crashing
  • 10 0
unlucky that he crashed , and unlucky that some1 got a photo of hit also unlucky that in now has over 1500 views but lucky it made pod Smile
  • 2 1
 shredNZ like comment.
  • 15 1
to murphy 1- without those cinderblocks, there wouldnt be a berm, n* is straight dust except for one watered down trail

 Wut?
  • 15 0
this is at northstar (n*) resort in tahoe, it gets very dusty there, so without those cinderblocks there basically wouldn't be a berm to ride, although they really are like a big cheesegrater to fall on

  • 2 2
The pressure suit works fine, and fits me really nicely. BUT everyone is different. Armour doesnt help much for broken bones, only cuts and scrapes.A rock is a rock is a rock, the only thing that will stop it from breaking your arm is a steel plate.
  • 9 0
Not at all. The armour spreads the impact... like the diff. between a work boot and a stilletto. Fall on to a flat surface from 2m on your chest you'll get winded. Do the same on the edge of a table and you´ll break ribs or your sternum. Wearing body armour is like making the edge of the table a broad flat surface again. Magic!
That's part of the controversy over the Leatt braces, people criticise them cos they seem to concentrate the impact on your collar bone....
  • 2 1
This crash isn't that bad. The rider isn't even sliding on the concrete blacks. Hes sliding in the loose gravel beside them.
  • 3 0
id rather break my clavicle than a vertebrae any day, but it all comes down to the rider weighing the risks and deciding if its worth it for them.
  • 1 1
 he broke his shoulder..
  • 1 0
damn.... just damn..... you must have been haulin to have your tire wash out on that.
  • 3 0
i saw this happen from the lift. it made me spit my red bull out
  • 1 0
 is the bike ok?! hahahah
  • 3 1
 1. this pod is terrible 2. this berm has so much traction and its sooo smooth thanks to the concrete blocks. i couldnt imagine how someone would and could fall on it. must be a freak accident....or really bad
  • 13 1
(I'm assuming this is a bike park or some kind of public works trail)Every year I see more and more Parks popping up or have been around for a while that want to be the just like whistler, Silver Star, Les Gets, and Diablo freeride park (to name a few of the best in the world) and they try to mimic building techniques but don't go the extra steps to get it right. In the case of this berm it starts way too flat and has no shape for something that looks to have a fairly wide open run in from what i can see. Second it is a 'human cheese grader' which is not how this brick is meant to be used in trail building. The time to pack with dirt, wet, repack, re wet, and so on for a good week hasn't been done from the looks of it which gives it concrete holes to snap a wrist in or chip a shoulder blade. when a bricked berm gets to this point of dis repair the park should be sending a crew with a water tank and shovels to fix it. With that much fully exposed brick across the top half, that thing must be a death trap in the rain for ppl that like to rail the top edge of a turn. I feel sorry for the guy cause that was a preventable accident and injury. I have had dozens of crashes where the bike blows out the top of a corner and you go to the inside and I have never had more then a little road rash and bruising. And ya I know it definitely looks like a easy berm but doesn't make it a good one. For all we know this guy could have really been pinning it and the berm just couldn't supply the angle and traction needed to keep him upright.
  • 12 1
Absolutely. You are preaching to the Choir here. Northstar is infamous for mimicking shore features and then sitting back and watching them fall apart. The maintenence is minimal, the investment of lift ticket revenue is floundered and the overall pride in the park seems to be lacking. There hasn't been any competition from surrounding MTNs and so very little evolution on N*'s trails. We are really hoping that Squaw's addition of a MTB Park will put some pressure on them and they will get their sh*T together. Until then, we rip the dust, blow out the berms and try to keep the rubber side down on the exposed cheese graters.
  • 7 10
dont talk shit about northstar its freakin awesome
  • 7 1
Maybe you should get a job there and teach them a little bit about trail maintenence.
  • 14 2
 could've had a v8..
  • 4 4
 it's should've had a v8
  • 6 0
thats gotta be the worst, laziest and most DANGEROUS trail construction i've ever seen!! imagine sliding in the dust and getting a pedal or bar end caught in those holes, or worse some fingers, think of how easy it is to slide out in a dusty corner......
  • 6 0
you would be pretty fecked if your hand got stuck in one of those holes. SNAP!
  • 1 0
thats why you tuck and roll
  • 8 1
ahhh finally, a not bmx pod!
  • 14 7
 How did this get POD???
  • 2 1
pretty sure they dont handpick pods and vods right on the 12 mark...probably automatic and it just filters them through on a daily basis
  • 3 2
ya i know this thing sucks! its not even like a cool shot but he fell haha. come on pinkbike.!
  • 6 4
shit guys, the picture is fine! stop bitching!
  • 6 0
Once again it comes up. It isent just about the picture it is about the whole scenario and the whole element of cycling.
  • 27 0
Lets look at it this way: Every single day we have a POD. Thats 24 of your 744,600 hour average life span. The next day there will be a new one, and a new one after that, and another one, and another etc etc. Does the fact that you personally aren't liking this one POD really matter? No I didn't think so.

If I can lend some advice: Stop bitching and wait for tomorrow's if you dont like todays...
  • 4 0
 well said bunkey lol
  • 2 1
The way it was explained to me, mods/admins/w.e select pics and they get tossed in a que that updates at midnight.
  • 1 0
 gotta love northstars gypsy!!!
  • 5 1
they should put a layer of dirt over the grater thingo...... would help a bit if you fell.
  • 4 0
Damn, that sucks! Probably would have been much worse without the armor, props for him wearing it. Hope he heals up quick!
  • 7 4
those block berms need to be wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more chambered over........ shit was squirrely

  • 2 0

  • 3 0
It's sad because that is one of the corners with the most traction in the whole park, you can rail that thing alllll day.
  • 3 1
I've always liked to look at in action crashes... Hope he wasn't too badly hurt
  • 8 0
Lol it says "broke his shoulder" ^^^
  • 2 0
Beautiful pic POD! It makes me feel when i had broken my collarbone...the same fall
  • 5 4
What the fuck is up with the berm. Who the hell thought that would be a good idea... Next up, clothesline strung between trees at neck height across the trail.
  • 1 0
you mean like our local trail called hitler? it was named that cuz a pissed of neighborhood person did just that but had them strung across at handlebar height in the middle of a downhill section made of mainly baby heads and roots... no brakes here... got to say, its a logical thing to name a trail with that rep...
  • 1 0
So you there's a bloodthirsty fucking idiot in your neighborhood. Have fun sleeping.
  • 2 0
It definitely makes for an interesting story... they dont do it anymore on account of the dudes capture.... luckily... otherwise I wouldnt be riding the trail every week

  • 2 1
well this POD obviously was picked for the photography not the "good" riding.
  • 3 5
I've done similar thing last summer, and I wonder whether I don't prefer brake bumps... this concrete stuff makes me think that this is where mountain biking ends, and we get into park biking. So yes let's just save the good name of MTB and open new category: PTB Park Terrain Bike.
  • 2 0
ouch ! not the best solution for a berm ..
  • 2 1
Maybe someone should send these guys some pictures of the North Shore? Wood = good, concrete = not so much.
