Dirt can get under your grips with regular barends as well though. The best thing about these are that they don't grab your shirt in inverts like regular barends can. The smaller diameter is a good thing.

 yeah but when the diameter of the barend is the same as the grip it does help keep a lot of dirt from getting under the grip allthough a bit may still find its way in. i ride with my hands right over the ends of my grips which is why i really liked these because other barends would bruise the outside of my palm but with these i wouldnt even tough them, i would still run them if i only rode park but they really suck for crashing in dirt with...

 I ride dirt and trails with them all the time with no problems. I guess just don't ditch your bike and you don't have to worry about dirt in your grips?
