So that the seat isn't dumb and pointing straight to the ground. So that he can pitch it upwards. Most seat posts like that can only go a certain distance if they're " the right way " around

Well then I would recommend a different seat post. They are meant to be the other way for a reason.

All seat posts except I-beam's, that I've seen anyways, are like this to a certain degree.
