Whip Crackin! Btw, BobbyBriers must be a spandex monkey... Those superduper shots of them taken with a happysnapper going down a single track with fear in their eyes, a butterfly and some pebbles probably makes him cream his spandex longs... I've seen better POD from the Palmer ranch too, but this is the best of the day, and pretty damn cool so stop whimpering, go eat an energy bar and take a spin on your trainer man! Fo**en Prawn! Yeee Hawww Prof Palmer these peeps obviously aren't photographers!!! loving these shots!
I wouldn't call it a POD, I'm not a negative asshole, and I'll probably get negative props for this, but I'm just saying this isn't much an eye-catcher and the colour is poor, props to the rider but the photo wasn't much.
This pic is pretty cool, Just would maybe have a different Angle and make it clearer for pod, But hey, Its not photoshopped like most the shit on here. so props dude. Also @-FoRREST-SS, I was riding down my sidewalk the other day, I smashed into a BMX'er I was on my Kona Stinky, He faceplanted into the Cement. I said, f*ck BMX'ers and just kept going. He didnt get up.
cool pic as far as lighting and stuff, but come on I can whip better than that. This is one of the first PODs I genuinely think shouldn't be POD.
Here come the neg props because I stated my opinion.
This is not worth to be POD, I think. Everything is deformed in a random way, it's not that de deformation adds something positive to the photo and those 2 people in the background are annoying to look at. The rider nor the bike look sharp. No POD in my eyes. I'd even say this is not a photo made by Eric Palmer.
I don't care whether it is wide angle or fisheye. In this case, the deformation doesn't add to the photo, so it's ridiculous. That is my statement concerning the use of a very wide lense. It's not that it was needed at that spot, because there is no valuable information on the photo in or near the edges. Now, you probably don't care, because all you do is chill?
No there isn't any. A simple whip, a usual point of view, not enough sharpness (or if you prefer not enough unsharpness either). A fisheye does not make every photo look amazing. People on a photo usually add a suggestion of life, but here there's one behind the front wheel of the bike, which makes it very messy. The backpack and the orange vest also disturb my attention that should go to the rider.
photoshoped to the max. how is the sun behind u and yet the right hand side of the bike has sunlight on it. also there is a shadow projected from his foot onto the front wheel.
coffee on my keyboard. good laugh buhgina. very succinct.
ERIC! thanks so much for consistently sharing fantastic photos with the pinkbike crowd. you are one of the best photogs on the site and are bringing africa to our attention as a place to ride bikes. well done!
G1993, I use remote triggers for my flashes & had 2 set up for this, that & the camera I use has a faster sync speed than most, so it allows me to use flash better in bright light. The shot is not photoshopped at all, only RAW adjustments.
im asuming you BMX, most of the BMX pics on pinkbike dont even envolve someone doing anything, yes there are "SOME" good ones but they are mostly pics of bikes and people hitting QP's
Not all PODs are good mtb pics. Some (like this one) are pics everyone could have made. Most mtb pics that come in are just boring mtb photos. Nothing special happens. Oh wait, I'm sorry about that.... They are nice and new whips, scrubs, drops and tables. But in the end, it is all the same. If you don't use any creativity (and NO, using a fisheye is not being creative in any way) in a photo showing what thousands of riders have done, then the photo is as boring as a BMX hitting a QP like you say. Although I have to disagree on that, since AS I STATED BEFORE, creativity makes a good picture. I bet that if there was a 50pct of each (mtb and bmx) the pods would be more divided, but since most people here are mtb-minded and that's the only thing that really exists, it will never happen.
So as you said, there are SOME good photos, but it really applies to both mtb and bmx (and all the other riding styles).
Now if you're done bashing on everybody who disaggrees with this being POD worhty, because it really isn't and many photographers would say so, come back to reality and see for yourself what makes good pictures. You can check Eric's albums, no doubt there is a whole bunch of good stuff in there... But don't kiss his ass and say that everything he photographs is GOOD!!
lol ive just been messing with you. i dont think its POD worthy and ya there obviously are crapy DH POD's and pics but i dont bash BMX POD's. most DH pics may not be good but most of them at least have action. most BMX pics are literaly pics of bikes and people no action ya there are some sick ones but not many. and yes this pick has very distracting aspects but anyone can come up with something distracting in any pic so you cant go crazy just because some people like a descent pic
Robby, you also have to understand that this is a job for some people & my best stuff does not often get put up here. I also have no control over which shot of mine gets used for POD, so just calm yourself down to a mild panic & try smile a little... life's not that serious, no one makes it out alive...
I don't understand why you say all of this. You say this is a job for some people, but that's not the point at all. Whether it's your job or not, you can upload pictures here on PB. When it's your job, the photos should be significantly better than others, should. What I said is that this photo shouldn't have been picture of that day, and that has nothing to do with the photographer being a pro or not. Anybody's picture can be a POD as long as people vote for it to be that special photo. In this case, I do not see why it has made it up to the upper left corner of the homepage and I explained why in a constructive way. People don't like negative comments and can't coope with them, except on PB where negative props can translate their "oh no i don't understand why he is so mean" feeling.
I am calm, and I don't care about props at all. In fact if I had only negative props, I would still be as happy as now because I know what I said and it wouldn't change the fact of people not understanding me.
"I also have no control over which shot of mine gets used for POD" Ok, so you're not getting my point either... I'm not in control of what gets POD, a lot of the time the shots of mine that get POD are not my favorite or best shots... having someone like you come & write essays moaning about it gets fukin irritating, because I know it's not the best shot, but someone here at PB did. So YAY, you have an opinion, we've all heard it, now shut up please, your almighty attitude is getting a bit much, we get it, you know better than anyone else & have a more important opinion than anyone else & have to send ppl private messages when they disagree with you... grow up buddy... it's just a pic that will & has changed after 24 hours.... get over it... move on...
I did not send anyone a private message and I do not say my opinion counts more than any one else's. I said I know people vote for the photo to become POD and that is not linked to the photographer. I don't blame you for putting a not so good picture in the POD map, I just stated that this picture isn't worth it and why. I never ever said you or any one else is less important than me.
You are the ones who need to grow up.First you tell to not take life too seriously, and now you say I'm the one who has to grow up while you're the one who doesn't understand. Read, understand and only then judge. You know, you're a dick.
If my essays -as you call them- irritate you, then get some people to contact PB admins to reduce the number of allowed typed characters per comment or even per photo.
"get over it... move on..." I have... & ppl don't vote for POD & you're a bit of a hypocrite... you tell ppl that their opinion is wrong because yours is different?!? but when they say they like the shot despite what you said you tell them they're wrong & it's shit... & I know the guy you sent the private message to about this pic, so you can't pretend you didn't.
At the end of the day you came to my pic to moan, I don't go out looking for shit to moan about. "I don't blame you for putting a not so good picture in the POD map, I just stated that this picture isn't worth it and why." you think you could do that in one post next time & not 20 coz I get the notifications... I'm not going to a mod to change the site, I'm asking you for the 3rd time to stop commenting on my pic & leave this stupid discussion alone, don't be surprised if I get more & more rude if you don't get the message (I started very politely)... if that makes me a dick, it makes you super slow... 3rd time lucky?!?!
People who got this POD are wrong, yes. Are you happy now? I didn't want to say this because it is hard to tell some one is wrong without getting his friends telling me I eat energy bars, ride a home trainer, wear spandex and come in them. Also I wanted to avoid that silly lie about the private message. That is very inappropriate.
You might have a position here on PB and a name that I don't have, but what you did here is unacceptable. There is no need for you to become rude.
Duuuude, I didn't get anyone to say anything, he did it on his own, I just happen to know him. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings, but you were getting a bit much, you have to admit that... I don't go bashing random ppl, so look at what you wrote again & think of why I reacted like that to you specifically. There were many others that thought the pic was not worthy of POD, they said it & moved on. You however commented on half the guys that were saying how much they liked it... that to me was unacceptable, so I had a word with you about it. If you can't take it, don't give it... Are we over it now?
