Selected by Ian Hylands - At first I just glanced over this shot as a thumbnail, it looked like an average dirtjump or huck shot with no real style. But I clicked on it and realized that it was a race shot, and it's a huge huck! Great light and composition, and I like that it's shot at 1/2000 to completely freeze the action.
"Cool stories on the front page bro, let's check out the POD...hmmm, I don't know that thumbnail doesn't look spectacular."
:clicks on POD:
"Wow, what a boring picture. Yeah it's clear, but they aren't doing double backflips or railing berms - this picture is garbage! I'm gonna go complain in the comments; this is an atrocity. How can Pinkbike do this to us? A bad POD? C'MON! Who chooses these picture? I'm so ANGRY, now my comment will probably be full of grammatical errors and awful spelling!"
:scrolls down:
"Oh, what's this?"
:Reads blurb below picture:
"Oh cool, Ian Hylands picked this one!"

"SOOO crisp and not just of some dude backflipping or railing berms. And he's going HUGE. Definite POD no doubt congrats muttley"
Just for the record, I don't mind this pic. When I say average PB user, I mean 15 year old punks. I find it funny that people care so much whether or not the POD is "worthy" or not. If you don't like it, come back tomorrow.
www.pinkbike.com/photo/6186917 same track different photo, i agree sick photo, muttley this is near the bottom of the track, just before the drop off. What do you think?
guys come on im 15 and i agree with bigdan30 and patman03, i agree that there are some kids out there looking for trouble but i also think that our age group is put under a lot of pressure, especially about kids vandalising and i think its a fab photo. Dont comment unless you can take a as good as or better photo
you can neg prop me for this but its what i think
looks like his left foot is slippin the pedal a little bit, sure hope he got that 5-10 firmly planted before his landing, cause fuck that would hurt to shinner from a giant hucker like that haha
I think it is quite difficult to appreciate this shot completely if you havn't been to Caersws.
Those who have will know how rediculously high he has boosted off the small take off.
i agree mate that jump would twick alot of the best dh racers out if you come up short your dead if you over jump your dead then you always have the wind the contend with great shot defo should be POD
Now with a pro photographer calling the POD, get ready for a lot of hate. There are alot of people that think the action is the only part of the photo that counts, so if it is a perfect Sunset photo with amazing light and shadows and even a splash of water off of a rock, some one will say it is not POD worthy because the guy is just riding along. POD is completely subjective, I look forward to seeing what a great photographer chooses.
There will be more than one pro photographer choosing POD's so hopefully I don't get all the blame...
Having said that it's a bit of work trying to find sick POD shots for DH, Freeride, DJ, and even a bit of XC'ish action, and no matter what there is probably somebody that will complain. Except the people that like the all mountain and XC shots usually don't complain about much...
check out ian hyland's notes at the bottom of the pic why he chose this as POD. that makes it even better so aspiring photographers like me can get an idea what makes a great POD. i didnt know that this was a race shot. that makes it even harder to take pictures. definitely POD!
Most people ride this jump as two drops or chicken run the first lip because its massive + if you 50/50 your f*ked and the next section is well steep! Without having ridden or seen this jump in the flesh it's harder to appreciate this shot- thats why the non brits think its a dud. This is a mint effort!!
Im very happy this is pod, i love it, simple but very well executed. Im also very happy that ian has told us why he chose it! Very pleased ian is aboard. Cheers guys.
Well done lad and great to see Ian on board explaining the POD choice after all the elitist back patting and advertisements that went on with previous pods devaluing what a pod ment!
It's a little known fact that Sam "Badman" Boardman is also a fantastic housewife and is the sole reason that Jay Whore made it through the long hot summer of 2009...
