For all of you that weren't there and seem to think you know anything about big mountain riding and say Gee didn't deserve 2nd, get off the drugs, get out of the house and go ride your bike. Then when you think you can ride pretty good go up to the top of the end of ridge one and look off the end. A bunch of people rode down it, one other person actually took Gee's line down it, but no one aired into it and rode straight down it at world cup race speed. That line was probably way sicker than this jump, in my opinion at least. This was just more spectacular for those that don't actually know what the rest of the course is like. Gee destroyed his rear wheel landing this, and Tyler McCaul hit it and rode out of it as well. Unfortunately Tyler crashed at high speed running into another obstacle right after this...

If you're not riding in rampage you really don't have any right to talk shit about any of the riders that were there. They all deserve massive props for everything they rode, and if all you can do is sit in front of your computer and talk shit about them maybe you should get outside and learn what the real world is like?

Ian what can I say... when I read stuff like this comment of yours I have the flashback with this interview with Dave Weagle on Vital MTB with a question which went something like: what do you think about "industry" activity on bike forums? - well I personaly thin it is good. And sorry but in a way you are an "industry" member, and thanks to that you are an authority with the power of cutting all pointless, very often untrue and not fair speculations.

And I am very happy that you are here and you wrote that thing. Forums need ppl like you because otherwise sooner or later this sport will turn into something like football/soccer, where a event arena is filled with thousands of experts of which 1% actualy practices the game they are into so much... a bit wanky to me Smile

Thanks for the support guys, there are only a few comments here and there that get me annoyed, most of it is just speculation or random shit talking which definitely has its place. But I believe that there also needs to be a little moderation when people are talking shit about other people and things they really know nothing about. When I was 14 and even 19 I probably talked shit as much or more than anyone, been there done that, and someone was always there to tell me what was up. I didn't really appreciate it at the time, but I've definitely appreciated it a little more as I've grown up.

riders like this deserve more props then people actually give credit to, Ian your intelligience is astounding, in a good way, people just dont know when to stop talking shit, it gets really annoying

Gee proved it possible. Even though his run was not the most spectacular trick wise, he made a fast flowy one everyone has to remember...

Gee only proved his line was possible. The problem is that what he did is totally sniped this hit from Romo on the last day of practice. But not only that, he built and nailed a line with no lip, less angle and less height. Removing the main technical aspect from the jump. This isn't to say the line was easy, which it obviously isn't. But he stole thunder and turned it into a damn rainbow. The real line is to the right of where he took off. From the top of the mound. It has a kicker and you basically have to turn back off it to land it right, there's about a 90 degree rotation from lip to landing.

Dude not to argue since i wasn't there but dude, looking at gee on the take off ... No lip ? Dude it sure looks like something launched him in the air. Look at his bike angle and height !

It sucks for Romo. He had a more man line and he was the first to gnar that shit. He still get the credit. Look closely at him here. He sure has more amplitude and diff line.

Now Pete it's your turn to go hit it like a man. Prove that Gee wears the rainbow shirt !

I'd seize the chance to go to the Rampage site. Likely won't be anywhere near a man as any of the riders there though. :C

But Gee is a local, and where he went as 'training' with Cunny before he went to rampage is my local spot. I rode there a lot over this summer.

dh-pete OK, let's say Romo was like 3 feet higher then Gee in the air... Happy now! Unfortunately for Romaniuk, someone else used his stunt to make his way to the box. Too bad it wasn't him but : I am pretty damn sure everybody enjoyed watching someone else taking it including the builder himself.

alright to clear things up... i'm the homie in the blue shirt, white shorts where he takes off. got the pic to show if you need but... gee didn't snipe shit. there were two lines into that same landing and what steve hit was a drop that gave him about 3-4 more feet of air- to start. the landing was PACKED and to be honest, its insane that gee rode away from this regardless of the few foot difference. it was nuts and deserves everything he got for it.

It was awesomely smooth how he did it, but Romo's had more amplitude (one of the four categories) AND Romo's was THE original line choice (one of the other two categories. According to the four criterion I really fail to see how Gee could get 2nd. He had insane flow no doubt (looking back on all the runs after he really looked like the big mtn rider), but he had low for line choice (the rest of his line was not especially steep or technical) and average for amplitude and obviously quite low for tricks too.

"the rest of his line was not especially steep or technical" I dissagree.

OK FACE IT! Gee got seccond like it or not. His run was clean and flawless and yes, he hitted Romo's jump like a dh'er but nailed it. It is a contest with judges. They decide who's the winner. Choosing Zink as 1st for one jump is far more questionnable. All you hucking kids should turn to crankworx to see what you are looking for.

Doesn't matter if Romo's line gave him more air, he didn't land it. Bender could have gone up there and built a 10ft booter at the edge of the drop, then he'd have eaten shit, and Atherton still would have pulled his run off perfectly..
  • 7 1
This is too much bullshit. Romo like it or not isn't there to kick Gee's ass. Saying Gee's line is the gay line is just retarded. No other rider even attempted to replicate Gee's line or Romo's line.. So stop whinning comparing thunder to rainbow ! No way ! Gee is a Dh man and what he did at rampage, even though it dosent deserve 2nd is absolutely beautifull.

James Doerfling tried that line too and crashed.

I didn't say Gee's line was gay. My point was that, in comparison to Romo's line it was much easier. Also, James Doerfling also attempted Romo's line into this. He snapped his 888's in the resulting crash.

Zink's run was insane. Everyone's argument seems to be that he's too slopestyle or some other retarded ignorant statement. The guy hit a tech line that many others hit, and because he 360'd the biggest sender up there and didn't trick anything else that somehow means it wasn't worthy of 1st?! Doing a sick line is awesome, granted. But hitting the same sick line with a trick is much more awesome. You can't deny that.

Gee's run was amazing, he hit the steepest line of all of them at race pace in super high exposure, and then stomped this. But it's no 2nd place run.
  • 5 0
The judges spoke and nobody will change that! I think I miss my good old Rampage where people were focusing more on fast gnarly lines instead of doing the sickest trick on the biggest jump.
  • 1 4
yea i dono the rampage was alawys abut the hucking imo. it's not a dh race.
  • 3 0
Who said it was a dh race?
  • 1 0
sure fast lines are a huge part. But look at past champs. Klassen and his massive huck..... Kyle Strait and his massive no hander on that huge huck. It's always been about who is gona send a granly fast line BUT also TRICK something massive. Past champs have shown that at rampage.

sorry guys but you start to make this discussion into a chicken hovel with gorillas. kua kuaak k k k kuaaa kuaaa gee kuaaa kuaaaaa romok romoku kuaa kuaaaaaa! ho, ho doh ho! ho ho uhuhuhuhu! If you wanted insane huge tricks, one was definitely there by Zink, if you want more perhaps buying some video game can solve ur desires... and sorry but it doesn't seem that we have some competent judges here to post such critique...

BTW I recommend a lecture of Ian Hylands comment a bit below.

If you were not there, Shut the hell up. Gee flew into that thing and hit a lip maybe 3 feet lower and just alittle off to the right of Romos lip. Romo is a bad ass for his attemt but give credit to gee he landed it so shut the hell up,
