Right, dont get me wrong, this rider has incredible talent and i agree, that is a perfect superman. But POD is meant to be a good photo, and i wouldnt exactly call this a good photo. I mean if this photo was exactly the same but the rider was just getting some air and not doing anything fancy, then everyone would be slagging it off and saying that it wasnt POD. You get what i am trying to say? POD should be a photo that is insane, and not just cos the rider is doing an impressive trick. I mean no offence, but this photo could have been taken on a cameras auto mode. Anyway, no doubt you are all just gonna rant at me for expressing my opinion
"Thanks" (I put it in quotations because it's not my site, not my photo, but I do appreciate a constructive and thought-out critical conversation on this site) for your honest feedback.
I think that PODs can be chosen based on either of the two criteria, either a beautiful awe-inspiring photo, or an amazing move captured in a "not exceptional" format. I say "not exceptional" not from personal opinion - I do feel that Adam takes exceptional photographs - but just to give respect to several of the opinions here.
People complained that the riding wasn't hardcore enough for POD. It's nice to see amazing photos of guys doing death-defying tricks, but honestly there aren't enough of those photos on Pinkbike to put one on every day...
One last point and my essay will be complete. If you ever saw Dreamland, it's a pretty ugly place. HUGE dirt piles in a really littered and chopped up gravel-y/grassland-y pit, subdivision lining the place, and no real views of anything (other than the boring hill way out there in the background), it's really difficult to capture great scenery there, unless you get incredible light like this shoot: www.pinkbike.com/photo/5507703 ). This shot and shoot is a one-in-a-million score, and if got a sunset like that on our daytrip there you bet Adam would have fired off some awesome shots. But we did the best with what we got and with Cole's awesome riding I think Adam turned out some amazing bangers!
I agree Dreamland is not the ideal backdrop for photo's, but it is not the backdrop that has to make a photo. Many different technics could have been used to a stellar photo. But I still think this photo is very good and in some cases you have to let the riding speak for its self. Cole's a beast.
looks like an architect drew that he is parallel to his cranks and pedals which are parallel to the ground...this is an insanely perfect superman dammit.
