 yes, i under stand what your saying but they are called crank arms and spindle, making a crank set, "cranks" makes out that there is more than 1 set. so a tandem bike has "crankss". crank being 1 set = 2 arms and spindle,

 there isn't though there's one crank which is 2 arms and most case's a spindle, a tandem bike has "cranks" because of there being 2 riders.
