im always to person that nags on bad shots but this has got all the elemetns of a pod! great focus on and off the rider, technical terrain(hes hitting a JUMP in the SNOW), and he has some style. And the shot really makes the bike stand out. really good shot in my opinion
No disrespect to anyone but for me this pic shows how all you have to do is slap on some expensive Kit and Get on a world class bike and ride over a few logs catching a few feet of air in order to get POD. Amittedly the bike is gorgeous, but it should be about quality riding or even a great view, this doesent make the grade for me personally!
It's not "trick of the day" or "style of the day", the photo is ace on so many levels. The ballance of colour, apeture, depth of field and detail make this awesome.
Couldnt agree with you more, finally someone who actually understands what photography is about.
It annoys me when all the 12 year old pinkbikers disagree with the POD just cos its not a massive jump or yet another generic dirtjump shot. POD is about a good photo, which this is
I had a huge debate with loads of people on a previous POD about stuff like what you two are saying, Just because some guy sends a 50ft gap doesnt make it POD, theres so much more to a pic than that! And this pic is just awsome!
Fir me it is not only the quality, though that is paramount, but also it has to speak to me somehow. This one says "Screw winter, biking knows no limits." A while back there was another snow shot with a dog that was a pure shout of joy. A picture is worth a thousand words and I get sick of ones that say the same old thing ever time. Good shot. POD for sure.
Dudes, this is a Biking website not a photograph website... The reason we are all hyped to see these POD's is for much more than looking at a pretty butterfly stand out in a background of daisies for crying out loud. Besides, this pic is not even that well balanced in general and the rider is ok at best... Its not great... its an ok photo not PINKBIKE POD material IMO. Send this pic to a Photograph admiring club and see if they will put it as POD. My bet is NO.
yeah its a biking website, hence its a pic of a rider on a bike... Photo of the day is not just based on a big gap or trick... the clue is in the name, PHOTO of the day not GAP or TRICK of the day.
I guess we all use different criteria to pick PODs. That will serve to explain why sometimes it is a sick trick and some times it's a tight shot, and sometimes it is both or neither.
Hey Azza-DHFR if that is your real name, I totally agree with what you just said... Taletotell as well and you from the beginning... This is exactly my point!!! and I quote from what you and LeafKona wrote:
Willshiels say: '' It's not "trick of the day" or "style of the day", the photo is ace on so many levels. The ballance of colour, apeture, depth of field and detail make this awesome.''
Kona dude says: '' Couldnt agree with you more, finally someone who actually understands what photography is about.''
and you added : '' finally, people who know what theyre on about ^^^ ''
Where are the comments on the RIDING and the whole story behind it??? what you both have posted is equivalent to: Look how beautifull the butterfly stands out infront of those daisies... I cant understand why you both would get positive props from everyone when if you think about it, you are dissing everyone by saying that we are not able to choose decent POD's. Again, Biking website not Photo website... P.S. I'm 36 year old Pinkbiker that knows that there are alot of cool 12 year old Pinkbikers that have the right to vote for POD just like the rest of us. This isnt the national geographic website...
ok, my comments werent intended to diss PB users by saying they cant pick decent POD's if thats what you think, It just annoys me sometimes when people say a POD is rubbish because its not of a gap or whatever. All im saying is that its not JUST about gaps, there are other reasons a pic should be POD thats all Im just gonna finish by saying, I like this POD, its nice to see something different to a big gap etc
I always thought the criterea for POD was for to display a composition that incorperates a great ballance of photographer skill and unique riding enviroment. I know this may not tick all the boxes for being original or epic, but still I can see why it got so many votes based on the fact that the photograper has absolutely nailed it on getting his F number right. Skillful but perhaps a little uninspiring to some..
Indeed Tatoo Willy indeed... again... my point exactly. You need a lot of both... this pic, IMO, has some of both... Regardless, Commenting on just the photo aspect of this pic is not enough for POD on PB... no?
Sometimes I question it myself, and every time I enter a pic on the POD threads I get knocked back because of the technical details of the photography.
But you're right, the composition in my opinion has to be first priority, but it's hard to find epic pics every day which are taken at such a high level, hence the compromise..
what snow? there's more snow in my freezer than in this pic. If you can see green grass in pic not a real snow shot. But ya the f stop is great and such, depth of field yayablala isn't there a photo blog somewhere for the camera fanatics.
It looks like saturated light IMO; look at his helmet, there must be snow on it if it’s not saturated light. Also if there was a fresh dusting of snow as it appears, there would most likely be small amounts of snow clinging to the trees or on the branches. Good picture thought, POD.
I think It dont deserves POD, the picture is all blurry except for the rider who is not completely in focus, seen better snow POD's an this one, FOR ME, does not deserve it.
He didn't ride. Just got dressed up for the shot. The bike is clean as hell... If you ride on a snowy terrain, you get muddy. Unless you have 4 feet snow-> but then again u wouldn't ride. :-)
Maybe this was just at the top of the run... or maybe it was cold enough for the mud to be frozen (which was the case for my ride last saturday... frosty)
riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.... Finally a non dirt jump POD! great shot, Excellent timing and composition.... screw winter... Let's RIDE! (even if it is 70 degrees and sunny here in Norcal - hehe )
