Saw this in MBUK, there was a whole feature on it... But why is Martyn sliding out there? Where is he going? The photo would be better without him to be honest... Pretty cool shot though,
the glow sticks that got "roosted"... look a bit suspicious.. i learnt how to smudge them when i was digimoding cars so they look like NOS spray.. I do believe you and i think its a brilliant shot. i think if they were different colours that it might have been better. but props for something pretty off the wall
The colours of them were unfortunately blown out by the flashes - I would have done a far better job if I'd shopped them in post process! glad you and a good few like the shot )
my real names Luke Giles, i live not even two minutes away and ive been building there my whole life. Its not huge by a long shot and it is more effort than its worth but its making use of whats there. we built a nice hip jump recently, hard to hit with enough speed but its great fun. If id have known this was going brown id have come up.
Finally a pod wear i live! This place has its makings of a real awesome riding place, but noone bothers to build anymore going there sunday though to build that shit up! and that drop isnt big what so ever...
Was complicated by the need to shoot it in the dark so as to bring out the glow sticks on the bikes....yet they wanted to see where they were going - mountain bikers!!?!
shot with three speedlights - one positioned back behind the tree, the other two out of picture right and zoomed in heavily. Only had two goes at it before it was too dark so was pretty pleased with the outcome.
Hmmmm that came across rather strong I guess.. Don't doubt that it was a techy shot to shoot, and fair play to you for getting the crisp and quite original image that you got - lets just say it is very 'MBUK' and the massive locked brakes skid is just the icing on the cake for me.. Would rather see martyn ashton doing something more natural - he is a skilled rider after all.
You're both missing the point. Its not that its not skillful photography or skillful riding as both are top notch. Its just the whole thing is so staged that it loses any sort of meaning, I mean where is ashton going? Not really mountain biking, just standard MBUK gimmicks....
Yes it is very staged (I think the glow sticks might be a giveaway there!?!) - but in creating an interesting image to a brief requires some creativity which both the riders and I had some fun with! I guess Martyn could have been merely tucked to miss Blake's wheels...but surely skidding under him and through a pile of glow sticks is gonna be more amusing? We weren't really going for 'meaning' here
