Selected by Ian Hylands - Nice trick, full extension, great composition. I like the negative space created by the out of focus tree on the left, and the depth of the trees on the right. Jump and rider are both on thirds intersections, and that's where your eye is drawn naturally. There are crazier tricks out there, but I like this photo...
I dunno should negitive space be half the photo . Kinda makes me feel like im smeagol hiding behind a tree. We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious.
Indeed. Like the album the whole album by the way. I get down chicksands quite a bit. Never reached Woburn. How are things down there? was there talk of trail access problems a while back?
I chilled with him quite a bit while he was out this side. Such a rad guy, always amped & always killing it, love working with him. Seen a few shots of these trails & they look sweet!
Well i mean props for the skills man, its just regardless who is pulling this trick i just find it silly looking, im not bashing you or your skills, just the trick...I dont know why just ever since i first saw someone do this trick i thought it was goofy looking
another terrible POD delivered by ian haylands! like really what the fuck. tyler maine should be picking all of them, hes got the only decent ones picked. god damn
People like this guy make me laugh.
Seriously, if you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all. I mean I warmly accept criticism, but that comment would hardly be considered crit.
Sorry guys I think I agree with F8l-DJ. I'm no pro photographer. I like the the trick but I find the tree distracting. I don't think it adds to the composition. If it was a shot on the fly maybe but I am guessing it isn't. I just don't see how incorporating an out of focus tree into the shot enhances it.
Sorry.
Hopefully you won't get shot down for expressing your opinion... I also really liked this one but I didn't like the composition and the trick as much... Art is subjective, that's the nature of it. Out of focus elements in an image really focus your attention on what's in focus in the shot, almost like a little window of clarity. They help to make it more interesting.
I think the tree would have worked if it was only using a third, not a half. with it being pretty much exactly half the picture, i would have cropped in personally. but then again, i've not got much experience to talk from!
Is it largely a thing of personal tastes with the tree here Mr. Hylands? The photographer looks to have taken the shot right when the rider was peaking (height/extension at fullest), something I've found hard to get with tuck no handers.
Not sure exactly what you mean by personal tastes with the tree, but yes I personally like this shot and I like the way he used the tree in the shot. It looks like an out of focus tree on the left and a vertical shot all in focus on the right. But if it was just a vertical shot it wouldn't be nearly as interesting to look at as this horizontal one with the tree. Everything all perfectly in focus can be interesting, but photos tend to look better when they have depth.
