Selected by Ian Hylands - Color - check, Composition - check, Trail winding off into the distance - check, Guy looking flat out pinned doing a power wheelie through a puddle in a corner - check. This photo pretty much has everything except dirt jumping, even some color for those who found yesterday's POD a little too bland...
Good picture. The only drawback for me is the full dh bike/dh kit on what looks like something that could be ridden on a cyclocross or at least a hardtail xc bike. A little overkill imo, which detracts from the shot. Timing is great, colors, all that was stated, but put the rider on an all mountain bike with a standard helmet and you have a winner.
I understand that. I'm just saying that where the picture is taken doesn't warrant the gear being used. I'm sure the trail is full dh all the way, I'm just providing some constructive criticism for the photo as it is.
that's not my point, but clearly you're not understanding. I know he's not going to do a dh track, then switch everything for a flat section. It's simply a critique coming from a photography perspective to make the photograph better. I think it's a great picture, but everything can usually be improved, so I was suggesting an adjustment to the only thing in the photo that could have used a style adjustment.
If I'm going out to shoot this particular location, with this puddle in mind, I'm going to realize that this section of the track doesn't appear to be full on dh, and therefore, maybe I'm going to get my model, the rider, to get on a bike and wear appropriate gear for that particular section. In a photo shoot, riders may switch all kinds of gear from shot to shot as what is optimal for one location may not be optimal for another. It's just something to think about when composing for different situations. I'm not an idiot, and I'm not hating. I think, as I've said, that it is a great picture, and was only offering one tiny improvement.
If you pick up an issue of Bike Magazine, or Dirt, or whatever, and see a picture, all you have to put the scene together is what's in that picture. This could be Schladming for the rest of the trail, but all I've got to go on about the nature of the trail being ridden is what I can see in the picture. But nevermind, why offer constructive criticism, gnarly radtacular sweet dude....carry on.
I dont normally get involved in this drama, but tgreid, you are a fool! Just shut up and move on!
I can see by your photos, you always ask ur riders to change clothes on the trail! hahahahha
Not to be a dick or anything, but none of your pics compare to this picture as far as composition, color and clarity. So dont try to act like a photog wizard and just enjoy the dude killing the puddle with style!
Great Job BryBry on POD! See you around bro!
Did nobody read the part that I stated that I really liked this photo? I apologize for offering up one tiny nitpick, one thing to maybe consider when taking photos in the future with regards to composition, that should have been made as a comment only to the photographer in private and not placed on a public board. The picture is awesome, great timing, great action, placement of the rider. I mentioned what I considered to be one drawback, one out of a totally great picture. But I guess the point was lost.
there have been a lot of pictures that have been non pod worthy according to me and the comments ive seen this picture i belive may be pod worthy some creativity, good colors, crisp shot, and overall pretty freaking heroic
the problem is this shot has creativity, steeze, and not to mention its probably one of the sweetest things you can do on that trail, and he made it look hella sick!
